KORG X3 Workstation

I just bought a YAMAHA Motif6, mainly got it for the sounds and I use it as my main gig board on the road.

I have a KORG X3 that I have been using as my primary workstation (yes outdated but works well) in my home studio.

I have been reading the YAMAHA Manual and I'm lost, so for now I would like to use the Motif as a tone generator going into my KORG. Since I am used to running this seq.

Getting it to make sound thru MIDI is not a problem... Since I've never used a tone generator in a sequencer before I need help in assigning the different sounds to the tracks on my sequencer. Especially the drums sounds, they sound really killer.

I don't know much about Motif, does it have "Multi" mode or "Sequencer" mode?

I have N364 which works exactly like X3. Usualy, you only need to change bank and program number in sequencer mode, and it will also send the message to MIDI device connected. If it has different method of sending bank/program change command, then read MIDI implementation chart of Motif, and find out if you need to insert bank / program select message in Sequencer edit mode by using MIDI CC (Control Change) command (usualy 0 and 32).

Sequencer --> Edit --> Create Ctrl.

Got it working but....

I'm having trouble setting the octaves. The Mo6 is playing lower notes
than the X3. I have tried pressing the octave buttons on the side and
when I play the keys manually it shows that the octaves have indeed
moved up. On playback however the notes stayed the same as before. I also
tried maxing up on the X3 but that didn't work either. Anything I'm
doing wrong?Thanks

Hmmm, lets see if I can help you.

Korg X3
In Seq mode, press Edit. Go to lower page (1D). There you'll find transpose adjusment for each track of current song. Raise to +12 (an octave) or +24 (2 octave).

You should also be able to transpose an octave in your sequencer. When I used to sequence the Korg M1 I would run it in Combi mode and once I had everything setup for the song I would save it as a Combi Patch. That way I could just load up the patch and go and all the effects and everything were already set.

Which one is the master? Motif or X3? If X3 is the master (which means it plays sequencer, and send MIDI signal to Motif, then Motif makes sound), then you're gonna see my way will work better, because you don't play sequencer in Combi mode. Either way, when you use Motif as master then Tex said the way to go
