Korg Triton Studio

I'm thinking of getting the Korg Triton Studio (88 key). It sounds like a really nice all-in-one studio keyboard. If you have had any experience with it, I would appreciate some feedback, good and bad. Thanks!

I actually just ditched my Triton Studio (61-Key) for the Roland Fantom X8.

I play mostly Piano/Rhodes/Wurli sounds and let me be the first to tell you that the triton's piano sounds are poor, if that good.

If you're looking for something more centered on pop/hip-hop/R&B production, you should be okay with it, but definitely take a look at the other big two.

Yamaha Motif, and the Roland Fantom.

I own a Motif, and I agree with "thispleasesme" about the pianos. The motif has some good Pianos and E.P.s I actually use mine for the vintage analog synth sounds. Organs out of the box are kinda weak, but if you have the time to tweek them yourself (like I did) they will kick major ass !!!

When you turn of the effects processors on a Triton, it just sounds like crap. The sampled waveforms are not good at all. Tritons NEED their built in EFX processors to sound good.

This is not the case with a Motif or Fantom.

100% agree. i owned a Triton LE. now i have a Fantom S. difference is simply outstanding. without effects, triton is pretty much dead. not the case with the Fantom S.

I have a Motif ES8. It's pretty nice and sounds great! Roland has a mean piano sound tho...

Actually I agree to an extent. I've got a better Piano on my N Korgs then the Triton has. And I agree the PRESETS are lame without the FX. If you are into tweaking and programming, you can create magnificent sounds with the Triton. But if you just want "Power On and Play" sounds the Motif might be better (And I won't say the same for the Fantom...It just doesn't cut it for me, straight out of the box, but sounds excellent once tweaked).

I own the Triton Rack (basically a Studio in a rack, minus piano expansion) and a Motif 7, and they both cover different ground. If you max out the sample memory in either, you can load in some third party pianos that are killer, but both of them are a little weak stock. The Motif is more direct in your face with a lot of the sounds, where-as the Triton series has a little more of that ethereal shimmer thing going on, which for some sounds can sit in the mix a little better. My advise, get one of each, but one in a module format (whichever way the dollars work out the best). I have issues with Roland as a company, so I can't really say anything there, but between the Korg and Yamaha, you can cover a lot of ground!

I have owned all of the keyboards discussed in this thread. I loved my Trinity and Triton, but as already suggested, the heart and soul of these pieces are the fx processors. I currently own a Motif ES and it is, IMHO, the best do-it-all, if there is a such thing. I also own a Fantom S88. This board is great, especially for performers looking for more natural, unaffected sounds. They only get better with tweaking but serve pretty good as standalones.

As most would agree, I would steer clear from the "best board" discussions. It truly depends on what is desired. This is a large part of the reason why I own multiple boards (ok, maybe I have become a gear junky...).

Another two cent production (and worth approximately that)...

Okay, thanks for all the replies. I went to my local music store and tested out the keyboards discussed here, and I have to say that I was most amazed with the Yamaha Motif ES 8. The sounds are really out-of-this-world, especially the vintage organ!
