I have a Trinity and a Trition rack. I am using the Trinity as a midi controller and sequencer for the rack. I just use the rack for the sounds. I recently got an Akai MIDI Pad Controller, so I can stop beating up the keys on the Trinity when making drum tracks. My problem is when I have the pad plugged into the midi in and I try to record in the sequencer mode it sounds a note, but it doesn't record the note data for playback. Also, I was wondering if I could use the pad realtime to send midi data through the Trinity to the rack so I could hear and record the sound of the drums while listening the other tracks I have already made? All the note data is recorded on the Trinity in the sequencer mode. Do I need other equipment to make this possible?

You may need to flip a switch or change a mode to be able to record into the Trinity sequencer from an external source. Look in the manual in the sequencer section under 'external midi control' or 'remote sequencer input' or words to that effect.

Once you find the right switch/mode you will be able to record drums in real time, meaning while you hear the rest of the song...

I would also consider making a split on different a midi channel for just the drums

I got the pad to record the data to the trinity, but the midi data isn't transmitted to the triton rack until it is recorded. So, right now to record using the pad I am stabbing in the dark. I was wondering if the midi data could be heard realtime, like pressing the keys on the keyboard before you record the sound? Also, sometimes it seems like the pad is killing the function of all the buttons on the trinity. Is there something wrong with the equipment or does it sound like the settings are incorrect for the midi data? When I have the headphones plugged in the keyboard, the EXT setting doesn't make a sound, the INT setting does make a sound and records, so does BOTH. Is having it on BOTH locking up the buttons? I have tried all the different combinations of turning off Local Control Data keyboard and the rack with no change.

Side note: What does MIDI Thru do?

Make sure that the pads are only being transmitted on one channel and there should be a way to monitor the incoming midi signal. IIRC (meaning you should look it up) drums are midi channel 10. The instructions to set the midi channel to 10 on the mpd should be on back of it (or can be set via USB)
