thanks, for the info, thats something i can look into... since yours in in the shop even now, do you regret buying a "one piece" recording system? i was really up in the air about the computer route or the DAW but i had read about so many people having a hard time getting everything to work together on their computer set ups that i went with the Korg, good luck with yours.....
YES. I was actually in the middle of a recording project when this happened. Nothing was more frustrating than having this happen after taking a while to set up mics and meticulously tuning drums while trying different head and different drums, and, well this could go on for a while. I ended up getting a computer based system because it the repair was taking so long and I'll probably sell the Korg when I get it back.
That being said, I've been having trouble with the pci card that came with my interface, and the motu tech support doesn't seem very knowledgable about even the basics of how computers work. RRRRR

. At least it worked long enough to get the drum tracks down though, and if the issue with the motu doesn't get resolved, I don't need to get a whole new system, I can just get new converters.
Another plus of the computer system is being able to upgrade the signal chain. On the Korg, I really couldn't bypass the pres. A good pre going into the Korg still sounded better, but not as good as if I could go straight into the converters.
Also a good computer system with similar features wouldn't cost any more than one of these units. Figure $1000 for the computer, $1000 for a control surface, $600 for a firepod (which comes with software), and some freeware plugs, and you still have more features than
the D32XD for $400 less. The only drawback would be only having eight chanel faders instead of sixteen.
