"Fatal! Read time out" Thats the error message im getting on the machine after it locks up on me, Its been back to Korg once and they said they replaced the hard drive yet all the stuff I recorded was still on there. Not sure what to do at this point. The "Authorized" Korg repair guys around here are lucky if they can change batteries in a flashlight so it had to go to NY for repairs and loooks like it will again....Did I get burned? It wasn't exactly cheap. Any help, any suggestions are appreciated, Thanks

Is the drive full? I don't see why that would give you a read problem, but it can put a strain on the system.

Did you try optimizing the drive/tracks? This might help.

I'd start with that first.

If you are still having problems and if you don't need the data on the drive, wipe it out, if that doesn't work, you probably have something else going on.

I haven't even seen my D32XD in months. A while back the drive started writing intermittent noise everytime the HD light comes on. The guy who is trying to repair it is in a pretty noisy environment so he has trouble hearing it and keeps telling me that he can't reproduce the problem. I've never had the error message that you seem to have, but it sounds to me the hard drive is having trouble handling the data on there.

The guys at the tech shop may have copied your old data onto a new drive BTW.

thanks, for the info, thats something i can look into... since yours in in the shop even now, do you regret buying a "one piece" recording system? i was really up in the air about the computer route or the DAW but i had read about so many people having a hard time getting everything to work together on their computer set ups that i went with the Korg, good luck with yours.....

YES. I was actually in the middle of a recording project when this happened. Nothing was more frustrating than having this happen after taking a while to set up mics and meticulously tuning drums while trying different head and different drums, and, well this could go on for a while. I ended up getting a computer based system because it the repair was taking so long and I'll probably sell the Korg when I get it back.

That being said, I've been having trouble with the pci card that came with my interface, and the motu tech support doesn't seem very knowledgable about even the basics of how computers work. RRRRR :mad::mad:. At least it worked long enough to get the drum tracks down though, and if the issue with the motu doesn't get resolved, I don't need to get a whole new system, I can just get new converters.

Another plus of the computer system is being able to upgrade the signal chain. On the Korg, I really couldn't bypass the pres. A good pre going into the Korg still sounded better, but not as good as if I could go straight into the converters.

Also a good computer system with similar features wouldn't cost any more than one of these units. Figure $1000 for the computer, $1000 for a control surface, $600 for a firepod (which comes with software), and some freeware plugs, and you still have more features than the D32XD for $400 less. The only drawback would be only having eight chanel faders instead of sixteen.

to update: Fair is fair. I complained about the Korg not working right and rightly so, but I have to give it up to the guys in NY for making my problem "their" problem. After trying to fix the D32XD and sending it back, I called to let them know I was still having the same problem. A few phone calls later and my DAW was on a truck to NY to be replaced with a new one! Now I can't say that would be the case in every situation, my particular error seemed to get some extra attention, but these guys exibited awesome Customer Service. I am so pleased with NOT getting the run around that I'm going to write the company. Based on just my experience with these guys I would highly recommend Korg because I know they're gonna take care of business.
