Kind of Soul Thing.

Hi, for me the voice is a little dry, but just a little, you could check the reverb or add a little delay to it... the drums a too far. Everything else sounds great.. good job man.

Pretty good song, man! Voice reminds me of Prince and that's good. Mix-wise the voice dominates a bit too much. I would try to sink it in the track a little better with some verb (good example is Diamonds and Pearls). Drums sound a bit too electronic and not defined enough, too machine-like. Nice work though.

Joey :):):)

I like the recording...and the vintage sounds and groove. I thought it fit together nice...unique. And when the mix gets full, the sounds work better together. Like FM in 1978, Boston. Flashbacks. :^*

I am so pleased you guys like it. My wife was laughing at me when she walked past as I was recording the vox. She said the voice was 'artificial.' But I wanted to do the soul thing. I am glad you guys don't think it's wierd starting a lead vocal on a high A. Wife came around after played her the comped/verbed version. Still, I nearly put it in the trash bin.

New URL. Done a little with drums and vox in general as suggested. Some minor artifacts put in from an introduced dynamic eq, like the buzz from when you don't press enough on the bass string becomes highlighted / Some hi freq crackle from an unshielded mic cable.

Thanks again. Next soul song is gonna have even more unusual vocals. I'm gonna listen to Prince and get some ideas.

(Six hours later .. Pretty hard to find shit of Prince, Man. He's like an enigma when it comes to public access to his songs .. )

Cool song! Nice job! Sounds great! Definitly got the Motown vibe!!
Drums mignt be a bit dry.

Hi Nzausrec,

very cool mellow vibe, lifted my mood thankyou!

Peformances are very good especially the vocal

Mix wise I think its pretty spot on, maybe try a little more reverb on the vocal.

The overall sound is nice and full/loud, would be interested to know what you had over the master output?

Best bass sound I have heard in a while. That and the vocals really make this track.

congrats Nzausrec, well written, recorded, performed and produced.:)

Man, that is KILLER! Nice work.

I love the bass sound, how did you get that?

Very reminiscent of Remy Shand or Shuggie Otis. Especially Remy Shand.

Sounds awesome man. And never let anyone, even the wife, laugh you out of singing in weird voice. Most vocal tracks sound a little silly out of context, but that's the point of the instruments. Looking forward to the next one.

Thanks for your comments about the vocals.
For the bass I can't take credit. The bass goes through an amp cabinet plugin which makes the bass real low. I eq it at 70, 170 and a narrow band up around 9k, but the amp model really makes the bass.
The master bus has Vintage Warmer - so some squish and raise about 170hz/5-6khz, not much though. Then there's an eq with gains in bands low and high but not really middle. The eq also has some 'vintage' color in it.
There's heaps of eq'ing on a track to track basis. Each drum has maybe two or three passes.
I am sure that going from 16 bit to 24 bit has helped a lot. I always used to get mud in the low frequencies. So far with 24 bit I'm like Helen Keller suddenly hearing faint sounds like birds in the trees and stuff. There is so much more clarity.
I think that helps for loudness because having every sound distinct you can boost each one. If it is muddy each is not distinct, so the eq is important for loudness.
LightningMp3 keeps your song in the original way you mixed it down, in this case 24 bit 320 kbps. So, it's not squashed and made muddy.
Just IMHO.

This is absolutely wonderful. great vibe.

I agree with the comments about the drums. I think you can change the pattern up a little, especially during the quieter parts where they are kind of the leading instrument.

Yeah, also agree with the bass comments. What plug or modeler are you using??

peace.

Tres Cool!
the drums are the only nit to pick but even so they work - it's just that they could be sso much more to the tune.
Suss around & find a drummer!

I really like the bass and little sounds happening all over the place. Very mellow song. I like the drum patterns, but they don't sound very good. Very robot-like and too roomy. Personally, I hate the vocals. I like what you were trying to do, but you didn't pull it off to my ears. They sound almost like a parody. They just don't sound genuine to me.

just listened again, love the vocals, the song really works.
