I'm posting this not to show off or anything.

I'm posting this to say this is where i'm at now with my recordings/mixes

and i would like to improve and would like pointers as to what areas i should focus on.

Killer From The Depp

For this i used a Ibanez RGA42FM with bare knuckle pickups into a ts9 into a Marshall TSL60 with Eminence Man O War speaker mic'd with a sm57 off axis.

My interface at the moment is a line6 Toneport GX (this i believe is one of my major flaws as i have to hit everything with a compressor to get them up to audible levels)

The problems where i struggle are getting that aggressive attack on guitars.

Getting things to balance in the mix such as bass and vocals they are always too loud or too quiet.

I have a basic understanding of compressors and EQs but i dont really know what frequencies to boost to get the required results.

I look forward to any feedback that is recieved.

Thankyou in advance
Tony

Edit: Oh yeah i am completely new to Micing amps up until now i have just used the line6 for all guitars so any tips on placement will be greatly appreciated

Im only on my small pc speakers so please bear that in mind...

I found the vocals didn't sit in the mix for me or maybe all that distortion didnt give them any room...I dont know anything about this genre wise but id say there need to be space made in those guitars for the other instruments...the solo sat on top a bit too...maybe that's just a volume issue though

performance wise it sounded great...just some tweaking...there are some great players here that can help...Im just not one of them :o

btw how shite is soundcloud if you dont close the page?...you can see when the breaks etc are coming in the waveform..takes away the surprise..Ive never noticed before lol :D

Thanks for your feedback its very much appreciated.

Creating space in the mix is one thing that i need to learn really im pretty new to the whole recording thing.

I do believe the solo stands out more as it is the only part that wasnt double tracked so it was just doubled up and panned 25 left and right.

The reason i use soundcloud is its the only site that lets me upload wav files.

I have lately began to notice all the artifacts that the mp3 compression uses and it bugs me.

Thanks again

Soundclouds fine for a 128kbps site...I just haven't noticed the wave thing before "oh here comes the break" lol

for being pretty new to recording this is a very decent start :)

here's a referral for dropbox...you can host 320kbps mp3's here

Thanks a lot for that i've never actually played anything back on soundcloud i just use it for uploading.

I guess i really should check into these things first rather than uploading and handing the link out... I may as well have stuck with myspace :P

lol...loads of folks use 128 sites...but it can piss you off...I hate cymbals through them...they seem to totally transform crash cymbals into some washy mess sometimes

Thats exactly where i started getting annoyed with myspace the cymbal thing. Also strings sound really peculiar.

It's a shame as myspace can be such a good tool for musicians well it was before everyone hopped over to facebook
