Kick mic problem

I like the sound of the kick captured by the overheads. I think I must find the spot, I need to spend some time with mic positioning and listening through cans

I'd suggest using little or no internal baffling on the kick, putting on the outside head and miking that (with a blanket over the top supported as to not touch the microphone any). Trying to get the kick from the overheads is not going to be pretty... I can see a lot of compressing and EQ'ing in your future.

Granted, *some* of the kick tone will be there, but not too much.

Sorry, what I'm trying to get at is if you solo the kick, then bring in the ohead and/or snare mics, do you lose some of the kick?

If you look at the waveforms, do you have a peak on the kick coinciding with a trough on one of more of the other mics?

If so, then some of your kick will be getting cancelled and you won't get to hear it

Thanks LRosario and chess, but how much loose the head should be, is there any problem if I see the wrinkles on it???. The powerstroke 3 comes with a patch that you can glue to the head, do you think it could help to get click sound???. I want to try it first I don´t like a sticky beater, that could happen if I have to take it off. BTW I use a plastic beater, is good enough for me.

Don't worry too much about wrinkles. The patch that comes with the head is made of Kevlar, it keeps you from putting the beater through the head. It really doesn't change the sound any, it just makes the head last longer. Put it on, it's worth it.

Finally I solved the problem!!! The solution was a mix of your suggestions.
I changed the EQ curve using more frequencies 2.5-6khz for the highs, and 250-400 for the lows. Before that I only worked with 6khz and 400, now I got a better sound without adding too much EQ. Finding the spot made it possible, it´s amazing how a little movement on the mic can make a big difference in the sound.
