I'd suggest using little or no internal baffling on the kick, putting on the outside head and miking that (with a blanket over the top supported as to not touch the microphone any). Trying to get the kick from the overheads is not going to be pretty... I can see a lot of compressing and EQ'ing in your future.
Granted, *some* of the kick tone will be there, but not too much.
The solution was a mix of your suggestions.
