i am trying to record a drummer and me playing a live album, but i am having trouble getting a great sound out of his kick drum. it's a nice premier set, so the problem is not a crap drum set. is there a certain mic i should be using, or a way to place it? and what kind of EQ should i set to get a nice solid punch sound out of it? thanks

he has the audiotechnica drum mic pack. but i also have a rode nt-2, which i don't want to subject to that much stress on the diaphragm

go ahead, try the NT2..bu not inside the head..maybe about 2 feet back.

how should i EQ that mic so it comes up with a nice sound? and i was under the understanding that recording loud kicks and amps with lots of bass were bad for the diaphragm of good condenser mics???

I dont know I how I would EQ with that mic, if any (I dont own one, I dont know how it sounds)...for the record, I mic bass, guitars, kick drums with my condensors..it's really not a problem, just be sensible. good luck!

Agreed

Nothing like a 103 on loud bass cabs.
