Yes there have been other threads like this but when I looked at them I was all "qué"

Ok here’s the deal:

XP 1Ghz
Kawai KW40 (superold)
MIDI Gameport interface
SBlive 5.1
Cubasis VST 3

Bought the cable today got home plugged it in (hopes all up). The PC was on but i did not hear that familiar pling plong. So i thought silly me just gotten to used to USB. So I restarted the PC but no new hardware detected?

Maybe it supposed to be like that, it's not like i have any drivers on a disk or anyway else for that matter.

So I loaded up my Cubasis. Im new with this program so far I only used it for editing music. Anyways it was at this point I realised I had no clue what I should do next. I just marked a MIDI track and played a tune on my keyboard. I felt kind of silly. The PC speakers where dead quiet. The keyboard speakers on the other hand where not.

But what should I do next? Any settings? Hell I don’t even know how to record. The help section on the program was useless. So I wonder if anyone here can help me.

There's no new hardware to detect when you put the gameport adapter on the card.

There will be no sound from the computer keys unless you route the MIDI input from the keyboard to something on the computer that can respond to them. WIth an SB Live this would be one of the devices labeled MIDI Synth A or MIDI Synth B; you probably have a couple of VST software synths too. But the MIDI track has to be set up to receive the MIDI data from the keys. The data could be coming in on one of the 16 possible MIDI channels, so if your MIDI track is not configured to respond to the channel the keyboard is using to send on, you won't hear anything. There's usally a way to tell it to respond to data it's recieving on any and all tracks, called MIDI OMNI mode.

Unfortunately I don't have Cubase so I can't direct you with specific steps, but surely the manual or the help system cannot be so ppor as to not explain this...

Then what program would be most easy for me to use the keyboard? Becuse i cant get it working in cubasis.

Sure you can. And any other program would be just as hard to use as is Cubasis, so you would have the same trouble.

Yes probly but maybe in some other program I'll be able to figure it out or it might even be possibly to find instruktions in the help sektion. I've speen the intire day looking for the information i need. Appenently i can find it in the handbook with i don't have.

You don't have the manual? And you're ready to just go try another software package at the slightest impediment?

Hmmm.. what does this suggest?

You need hands-on local help. There's a lot configs that will need to be changed, under the Windows control panel, in Cubasis and on your keyboard.
