I've Roland EXR3 keyboard and have ANVIL Studio for recording. When I tried to record music through MIDI, all of them go to just one channel. I Want to create multiple tracks and assign instruments to specific track. Can any body walk me through how to do this.

Your help will be of great help as I'm trying to create some good traditional indian music with my keyboard.

Hey...this is all I got for you (I am not a MIDI guru, but I am taking a "music technology" class)...try finding and setting your "omni on/off" settings to "omni off" (especially on your recieving device)...hope this helps.

I'm sure Paul White can. He's the editor of Sound On Sound magazine, and here are links to his first two articles on midi basics - part one and part two.

You build up a midi composition using one part at a time. As far as the 'all of them go to just one channel' stuff, traditional midi channelizing doesn't really matter much with soft synths --- it's the tracks that are important, and that's the way you keep individual instruments separate from eachother.

We have a forum that's dedicated to nothing but midi matters called 'midi mania' here @ homerecording dot com. If you have further questions it might be a good idea to post them there.
