I use the key bindings in cakewalk and i also use a cordless keyboard and mouse and it makes my recording setup 100% more functional. I have my F-keys set-up as : play, record, rewin, undo, bring up mixer, and tile. And then i painted the icons on to my keyboard to make it visually easy. Now i can sit 20 feet form my computer hit record, then if no good - rewind, undo and then again. anyone else use key bindings? I think converting a cordless keyboard into an advanced "key-binded" machine could work as good as the more expensive "controllers" form tascam, peavy etc... Any thoughts?

My only gripe about this methodology is that I really need to control the PC from a separate, sound-isolated room for this to be of any value in this context. And IR won't travel through walls. A long wired version of same would be the solution. Any suggestions?

Dr.

The keyboard i use is "FM" not infared, (i think that is a little better) it is a logitech - i doubt it would go thru walls but the part which attaches to your pc has about a 4 foot cord and then the keyboard woorks about 20 or so feet.

I was thinking about using an old midi keyboard and maybe moving the keys around (you know thw midi control function) or even using a piezo based custom controller input (it does analog to midi) in to my alesis d4 and then sending the midi to cakewalk. Damn stupid brain of mine.

But honestly not being tied to the computer makes things very nice. Also i use two monitors - and although of course it takes away "resources" it doen't hamper me at all (i guess i'm am now thinking about increasing overall functionality of a setup ) so i have the "mixer" to my aardvark on one moitor and then cakewalk on the other. If the arrdvark had key bindings it would mae things great. Any other ideas as far as making this stuff feel and work more naturally?

Well I need it to go through walls!
I generally don't need it in CW, but Vegas Pro has kybd shortcuts already defined that I use in preference to mousing around.
Could you test this for us? TIA.

The FM doesn't introduce any radio frequency interference or noise?
