hello folks,
http://www.soundclick.com/util/getplayer.m3u?id=6730964&q=hi
The above link will take you to a remix that takes in all suggestions from the 1st page of comments in the last thread.
I've increased the drums throughout:
Raised the vol on the guitar line in the intro;
Reduced the fuzz bass in the chorus;
I added some overall vol to the main vox and a little mid hi peak and some definition via a sonicmax;
Dropped a very little chorus on the solo + a tad more volume;
Reduced the 2khz range in all guitars
&
Cut a bit more bottom from the verse bass but also added a little peak just south of the peak on the vox.
What worked, what didn't?

Good mix! The only thing is that I don't discern the voices on the chorus. They are buried by the other instruments. Overall very good

It sounds like the tidying up has nailed it-it's a great tune. Collaborating with Greg, Gerry, and Marc has given it a cool new sound, but it's still rooted in you're Pygmy Beat style. I love the rhythm guitars-and everything else about the song.:D

Much improved on the verse vocals Ray. The chorus vocals are still a tiny bit buried but overall the mix has improved.....:cool::D:cool::D

l really like the track.. im on my 4th listen now...
sounds great !!!
main prob in my opinion is the guitars.. its not the sound (could use more "meat") its what their playing ... id re-think the guitar parts and then post it off to a record company...

edit 6th listen.. that lead guitar in the middle.. the first note did it to me again !!! on the first listen it supprised me!!!! made the hairs stand up on the back off my neck.. sounded like it was "creeping up behind me"... if you make more changes to your mix LEAVE THAT GUITAR ALONE !!!....

Sounds great Ray. Much, much better. :)

I think I'd personally like a little more of the close mic'd snare track. But that's totally up to you. Well done bud. :)

Marcadiablo,
Still working on the chorus - sounded near perfect on monitors but doesn't cut it on reference speakers. Thanks.
Anfontan,
Thanks mate - very generous of you - I have to say the collab team worked wonders with a skeleton.
ido1957,
Is it the fuzz bass Gerry? Or something else i can hone in on.
cakewalkKaKed,
Thanks for the compliments - Gerry did a sweet piece of work on a difficult progression. Which guitars bother you? What suggestions do you have?
Greg_L,
I've used the gated snare. Should I swap it for the ungated or just boost it some? OR bring in a little ungated to snare to nudge the gated one along?

Guitars in the chorus still a bit "over" in the mix (my taste...). Maybe not only a frequencie thing ; some L/R pan could help for a better image and let the vox "free" in the center.Anyway,sounds better than before.

What is great in the new mix is a general presence (cymbals,hihat,vox,gtr solo)that makes it sounds much better than the first, "opened curtains effect kinda".

Good job, Rayc!

Ciro

Nah, just boost what you got. It just needs to crack through a hair more.

Remix #3

Hello Folks,
http://www.soundclick.com/util/getplayer.m3u?id=6730964&q=hi will take you to the latest remix (#3 in this series).
CIRO - the guitars were panned hard R, L & 1 in centre. I've reinforced the L & R & reduced the centre to give more space to the vox.
Greg L - I've boosted the snare a little in the verses and a little more in the chorus. With the reduced centre guitar and the boost is it at a level you reckon is right? Let me know what needs doing. Besides the high pitched vox issue how is the sonic balance to your very sensitive ears?

And it´s better in this 3º version.

Nice to see all the improvements, Rayc.

Getting better Ray. Now I'm thinking the overheads are too loud. You can probably drop em 1-2 db and have them just about right for my ears. The rest sounds very good.

Thanks Ciro & Greg.
I'll get to the drums tomorrow night Greg.
This one doesn't hit my brain as hard as Sewer/Night Out does. I'm trying to fathom why but not getting far.

This sounds really good Ray... The vocals are nicely present throughout the song now. I'll let you play with the drum levels then check it out. :cool::D:cool::D:cool:

Version 3 sounds a lot better, Ray.
You can hear the vocals clearly now. Snare doesn't need to be louder, just needs to be more present. Maybe some EQing or something. But you're really close to wrapping it up. ;)

Hello Folk,
This link takes you to remix #4.
http://www.soundclick.com/util/getplayer.m3u?id=6730964&q=hi
It has a little more than 1db reduction in the Over Heads as requested by Greg & for the 1st couple of bars I've raise the guitar figure and some keynboards just to give the intro more punch.
Oh, I threw a little glaceverb across the final mix just to see if it's any benefit to the cohesiveness.
Joey, if you have some clues to offer I'd be happy to hit the Colonel with the candlstick in the library.
Ido - thanks mate - let me know.

Hey there, nice mix, always find it hard to get all those gits sounding good, but you made it :)

Cheers

- Ulli -

Getting better Ray, but I'm sorry buddy, the overheads are still too loud. :o

Cut em maybe another .5 to 1 db and that will probably do it.

Much better!!!!! In the other mix, I didn't realize Greg was doing the hi-hats on the up-beats. Overheads might be a little loud, like Greg says, but it's still better than before.

The vocals still aren't as clear as I'd like, but it's 100% better. Nice dynamics in this. Guitar solo is right where I'd like the vocals to be.

I really love this tune, Ray.:cool:

Not having ever mixed drums, I cannot comment on that part of the mix with much authority. If Greg says down, then down it goes :D
The changes to the intro fit in nicely - enhance the mix a bit.
The reverb is good - just minimally perceptable as it should be.
