Which to keep for next GB.

Note: only 12 options allowed for polls so I left a couple out. Interest in any left out can be shown in postings in this thread.

That 5th option should have been 6801/6802 not 6901 ;)

I voted, however I think you can only vote once and a few of these I would want pairs.

I'm curious why so many people voted for the ACM-3. IMHO, the ACM-2 is a much nicer mic---more open sound, more easily disassembled and modded, etc. Even reaching the ribbon motor in the ACM-3 was a pain in the backside....

Just wondering.

Other than that, the percentages are pretty much what I would have expected, with the ACM-4, the 6802T, the 310, and the 583 being out in front.

Yeah I kinda figured it the same. What suprises me is that people STILL want the ribbons that had most of the defects.

From another perspective though it is still a good deal for those ribbons even with paying to have them repaired.

Oh man I just noticed I put the 580 in there twice! Note to self: Do not post polls after driving for 6 hours in the rain...

For the ones that have a single/multipattern option (e.g., the 6801/6802), I take it that everyone agrees the multipattern mic is the keeper -- no need to keep offering both?

Oh, and I voted for the ACM-2 and ACM-3, although I think I prefer the ACM-2. They do sound different. I think that, provided the appropriate warnings and disclaimer are clearly shown (e.g., plan on dissecting this mic and retensioning the ribbon), they're great for the price, simple and somewhat resistant to newbie mod screw-ups.. I'm a total newb, and have had a good experience with them so far.

'cause it looks like a royer, plain and simple

I wouldn't know....I keep missing out on the group buys because they keep using the SAME DAMN THREAD!!!!!!! why cant they be like the Public Mix contests and be numbered so that we know when there is a new one....

GB1...
GB2....
GB3.....

that would be so awesome....

Great idea. It would be helpful to keep the purchased organized too. Chance, are you reading this thread?

The old thread has so much junk in it, I wouldn't want to wade through it again!

I will vote when I know what I can get now, before the next buy.

This poll actually was Chance's idea. I guess you didn't make it that far in the GB thread :D

Ah yes, but I was also referring to the thread titles as quoted:

This would keep the buys grouped and in order. Of course I'm not taking about not having threads like the one "6802 Mods". I just mean the main group buy thread per order.

Just a thought.:)

i just go straight to the last page

1 time out of 10 you'll have to click to the one previous to that...but not too often

but i do admit a new thread would be nice for this round

So far, it looks like on this board, the ACM-3, 6802, 310, 583 are the top requested mics. I finally got to record with the ACM-3 over the weekend and I am truly pleased. NOW I see why, in spite of the ribbon sag, this is a requested mic.
With regards to a new topic (Group buy #3), It doesn't matter to me, but it would be nice to "reference" past photos and other information to make an informed decision to participate or not. Maybe someone could divide up the old GB topic/pages into segments so someone could quickly locate the history of the past. (pg #1 to pg #? the beginning, Pg # ? to PG # ? problems with ribbons. Pg # ? to pg # ? new products/first prototype (looks similiar to Behringer) preamp etc.) With a new topic (GB #3) the old one would quickly drift off into the archives and be forgotten. There are always new people coming here as evidenced by the E-mails I have been recieving. (TnC GEAR) They all haven't posted, but got the info on this board.
Maybe the old topic could be referenced, and be a "sticky"?

I would very much like to get in on the next group buy....I would have been very interrested in past group buys but I didnt know they were taking place...not without reading pages and pages of the thread...and not knowing where to start and so on....I probably would have made at least one purchase in each of them...

Cuz the ACM-3s sound frigging great... the best-sounding ribbons we got in the group buy, even better than the ACM-4, even after the transformer mod. Whatever happened when that mic was made, it's a great mic.

i joined up in that thread after it was already like 50 pages in, it wasn't that bad.

If you think about it, if the topic is 3 pages or 200 pages, you still select "last page". If things are moving quickly, you might have to back up a page or two.

And clicking on the little emblem (down arrow?) at the left of each thread will take you directly to the first post since your last visit. It's really easy to follow threads this way.

In my "edit options" page, I picked:

Thread Display Mode: "Linear, newest first"

and now my first page is the last page -- I'm used to it, and like it much better.

guys...is it really that much trouble to start a new thread....I think more people would take the time to get involved if they didnt have to wade through all those pages...be it 20 or 200...
