Based on advice from another thread, I made a few changes to my mix.

I lightened up on the low-end and tweaked instrument EQs. I think it is getting better.

(This is a home demo for a local band to get a few weekend bar gigs.)

Thanks for the help, everyone.

This is the first time I've listened to this, so I don't know about any improvements. Seems like a very "live" mix, as in "playing live on stage"... Was this tracked separately? Seems like the recording is dripping with reverb, too... Loved the tight harmonies. Timing is a bit sloppy from everyone. I think the song is played a bit slow, too (I play this cover in a band, too.. I personally love this song). Anyway... Just a few nits. Keep it up!

Ref. your reply to my post, your other thread:

"Original key?" So, what? Your singer is not Dan Baird.

What's your point? It's a local band doing a cover song.

You want him to re-sing it in a higher key?

Yes, that's what I am suggesting. Sorry if I was not clear. Singer is just not "working" quite hard enough in the original key, to infuse the song with sufficient energy.

I normally don't use that much reverb but, the original sounds that way, so I laid it on thick.
This was all tracked separately in my basement.
I realize it is slow. I tried to speed it up after mixdown but it only caused artifacts, so I left it alone.

Thanks.

I'll speak to him about it, but I am not sure he will understand. He is an older guy who is set in his ways. Also, he can be a little bull-headed at times.

Thanks for the help.

Maybe you can just tell the other musicians to take it up a half-step, without telling the singer.;) If they do it without capos, he might not notice...

Oh he'll notice...he is also the guitar player. This band doesn't really have anyone who can sing. But everyone at least tries and gives it their best. Some songs come out real good (for vocals) and others, well, not so perfect.
