Since I already have a Karma and I am quite fond of it. The Karma functions seem very much like they will provide a lifetime of inspiration. That being said, were you in this position, would you add a Motif for additional sounds and, would you consider adding a Triton merely being redundant.

For a bit of reference, the rest of my set-up includes a Waldorf Micro Q and an Acces Virus b, an Emu E6400 and a Kawai MP9000. The Kawai does my piano sounds and has about the best keyboard feel of any electronic instrument I have ever played (and I have played and owned quite a few). The others speak for themselves.

The point is this, In my opinion, the weakest part of my system is my string sounds. The Karma has some nice ones, I have some decent samples for the Emu and both the Waldorf and the Virus have decent analogue type string sounds.

So, what, if anything, would a Motif add to the mix and, what other options would grant me better string, horn etc. sounds.

P.S. I guess this question is a bit more involved than I thought.

You sir, are a synth junkie! Tell you what... I'll trade you my k2500s for your waldorf and virus. And I'll even pay shipping.

Really.

Instead of buying a Motif, you may just want to buy a high-end module like a Roland XV-5080 or a sampler since you already have everything but sounds pretty much covered by your other equipment.

I just got 128mb of sampler ram for it...

And it's the best synth out there for strings...;) ;)

I think the point is that if you already have a Karma, you will get a lot of duplicate sounds if you also get a Triton. Both the Motif and the Roland XV series have really wonderful strings, but the main thing is whatever is in there is going to all be different than your Karma.

The only reason to buy a Triton would be if yuo really liked some of the work-station functions that it had over and above what's on the Karma or the Motif.

But from purely a sound point of view, it seems like the Motif or XV would be better addition.

The Kurz has totally different sounds and unparalelled programability!

Yeah, I'm addicted, so what's new...

Anyway, thanks for the responses. Years ago I had a Roland Super Jupiter mks80 module. I did really like the string sounds come to think of it. Though I am not a big fan of Roland gear anymore, I have heard over and over how they have great string samples in their gear. I have a CD ROM for my EMU6400 called Super Strings. Up until this weekend I did not love the samples but this weekend I added strings to a track and after listening closely, I decided that the string sounds were pretty good. I am considering purchasing another CD with orchestra sounds. There are quire a few out there such as the Garritan Collection (overpriced for my taste) but, in any event, to be considered along with the many others. I checked out another for about $300.00 that seemed to have great sounds though I listened to the sample on an mp3 download. I will poast the name tomorrow since I am at work now and the name is at home. If anyone can recommend any really good sample CD ROMs, please do.

In the meantime, as a result of your commnets, I have eliminated the Triton as a synth I am interested in. The Motif is still a maybe and the Roland, since it comes in a module and is competitively priced is a contender.

Thank you all.

if your looking for realistic string sounds gigasampler is the way to go.

definitely if your choices are the roland and the motif
