Reluctant Commander
I just played a Peavey Classic 30 for the first time ever....WOW! :D :p

NOW I know what you guys are talking about....

Super sweet little amp! Cant wait to get one......

Can someone explain to me what's so amazing about these amps? My brother has one, and although I didn't dislike it, it didn't 'wow' me as much as I read on this board sometimes.

I have to admit that I played my bro's squier through it... would it wow me if I brought my les paul? What exactly makes them so amazing?

they are cheap (for a reasonable tube amp) & exceptionally chearful, most of the other tube stuff from peavey just didn't do it for me, but the classic range are wicked

they are clean up to a fair volume & the tone controls are remarkable

compact & relatively lightweight

OH YEAH & they go to 12

They are great little recording amps, they dont blow you out of the room trying to find that "sweet spot" sound that a Marshall or a Fender twin dont get at low volume.

It will only WOW you if you are playing the type of music for which the amp was intended. If you were wanting to play some delta river blues, this amp would blow you away. If you want to play EVH, you'll need a board full of pedals in front of this amp.... the classic 30 isn't intended for an EVH sound.

For the kind of music I'm doing, this amp is absolutely stunning!

I mostly play blues and some alternative rock, so I guess I'm in the right genre. I just found it to sound a little dull... kinda hard to explain, but the tone got on my nerves after a while.

I have to agree that for the money it's a good amp, it has some good controls (upto 12, brilliant :)) and it's reliable, but I think it's being hyped.

I used my friends one a while back, I'm a confirmed Twin user, I use 2 at once but I was very happy with the sound I got, used a USA Strat thru a boss CS1 compressor and loud, it did all it was asked.

I don't care for the classic series either. I tried a few of them and nothing about them wowed me. Same goes for a fender blues junior which also gets alot of hype around here.

A properly setup twin can sound unreal. I've heard a few that were awesome amps. I've also heard alot of not so great sounding twins.

the difference between a good twin & a bad twin is often the speakers. IMO fender drivers suck majorly, the best twin sound ever came from 2x JBLs

My friend has owned a Classic 50 for years now, and I never cared for its sound at all until I learned about gain staging on a tube amp. A couple of years ago we were jamming and I turned the post gain way up for volume and left the pre gain way down and within minutes a tube amp was at the top of my shopping list. Its all about the power tube breakup, and adding just enough preamp distortion to sweeten it a bit. It really is a great sounding amp for rock/blues. Toss an overdrive or a compressor in front of it and look out!

yea, speakers make a huge difference in any amp. it's amazing how a twin can be transformed with the right speakers and tubes.

i had one and brought it back. the sound is kinda cool when u first plug in but gets old real fast. its amost microphonic sounding to my ears.

i love my AC15CC much more.
