I would love some honest input on my simple setup. Keep in mind i put this together without any vocal recording knowledge. I have a mxl v63m condensor mic going into a mackie 402-vlze (which shows to have a built in mic preamp. The mackie tape output is connected to a M-audio audiophile sound interface which is connected to my pc through firewire. I am using tracktion 3.0 as my software interface.......my recordings arent bad, but i dont think they are the best either. please advise on what to replace if need.

TROL :D like that user name ..... Well it could boil down to your room that your recording in or how far off axis/or how far away you are to your microphone.

After you have 5 post under your belt you can post a link or post a clip of what's going on and you can give us all a better picture of what's going on.

You should be able to get a decent recording with that equipment - what software (DAW) are you using? Reaper?

im using tracktion which came with my mackie, ill look into reaper.

The demo seems easy enough to use and i like the idea that its programmed by professional users.

That demo is full function and you can use it forever (well you should pay the $40. if you really like it) It will just nag screen you after awhile that you can side step till you 100% sure that Reaper is for you. ;)

If it came with the Mackie it might be fine - I have never used it myself - every time I think I have seen all the DAW's i learn about another one! If it does what you need it to do then your good - Reaper is good software but so are a lot of apps that come with hardware
