So pretty much at the moment its just me, an acoustic guitar and a pc computer. I dont really know anything about recording but I have about 20 songs that I have written which I have had on the backburner for a while and would really like to get around to recording one day. So pretty much what I want to ask is how did you guys start out recording your music whne you were new to the business like I am? also any suggestions on what programs to use to record, microphones, and any general advice really to help me get started would be great. I'm only 17 so I dont have that much money at my dispense either so im looking for cheap options.

Cheers!:)

Do a search of the forum based on your questions & you'll get all the answers.
You'll note that peolpe saking the same question as your good self are being ignore simply because they've not taken the initiative to search. Use the obvious keywords: beginning, setup, gear, etc & go for it. You'll get less flak that way too.

Microphone to preamp to audio interface to computer software. That's the basic formula. A real microphone - not the little thing that came with the computer. Because a real microphone puts out a very low voltage signal (high quality, but low voltage) a preamp is needed to raise the voltage of the signal before it goes into the audio interface. A real audio interface - not the stock sound card that came with the computer. And, IMHO, not something containing the name Soundblaster.

Exactly which mic and preamp and interface and software depends greatly on your budget and personal preference. At the low end of the scale, you can get everything you need for $200 - $250 US.
