New to the home recording thing. I'm an inspiring rap artist and have been writing for a long time. I decided to take this business more serious and get a demo recorded. What basic equipment do i need to get started and what other tips can anyone give me for begining? thanks...

First off, you need to know how much you want to spend and how much time and effort you have. You will need (at least, if you are recording just yourself), 1 mic, stand, cable, pre-amp, and a multitrack recorder/ computer-based recorder, etc... This is the most basic equipment and can be all had for maybe $300. If you want to lay down tracks of music to backup your rapping, then you'll be increasing time/effort/expense.
It would be very helpful to provide more information on the aspects I mentioned earlier.

I'm not tryin to go all out....just the basics.....as time goes i'll probley add on...i am planning on puttin a lot of time and effort...i'm tryin to make tracks to back up my rapping

If you need simplicity to start

May I suggest one of the Korg Electribes or the Roland "880" (I think) Drum machine...?? I just heard an awesome demo of that drum machine the other day with a friend - I think it goes for 550.00(?) in some places... But, it had great beats and some awesome bass and backup riffs that may get you started for a low cost... The Electribes go for even less...

That might be a good place to start with backing music - You can always add on later and still use these devices as well...

Good Luck..

Absolutely...

Yes, YES... Excellent Idea...

If you're good at "ebaying" you can get some GREAT deals...
Just a month or two ago I found a Yamaha W7 for 200.00...
What a steal...
I couldn't believe that no one placed a bid on it...

I've purchased all kinds of gear through Ebay...
Been doing it for years...
