Thanx for the encouragement. I wrote the
song, I grew up on a first st. I played all
the guitars and the base, wrote the music and
the arrangement, and sang all the vocals. Used a Jackson standard pro for the rythum and an ES-335 for the lead and a washburn 5 string bass. My friend Fred Lockwood plays the alesis qs8 for piano and the drums were
done by Chuck Burdick on his own custom drum
set, his company is called US Drums. We re-
corded on and adat xt 16 bit through a mackie
1604 vlz and used an akg? cs3000. My mic and
Im not even sure which brand it is but it is
a cs3000. My guitars were played through an
art ec center(foot pedal), no direct boxes,
the drums and keys came directly in, 6 mics
on the drums, sm 57s and a shure kick mike and 2 shure condensor overheads. No fx at all
on anything. Mixing was done on my pc through
adat edit and the only fx besides my guitar
pedal, were added there, just reverb, never
did get to use any compression. I cant think
of anything else to add, that about sums it
up. Thanx again.

Damn you can sing...and the guitars and bass were great too...I loved the lyrics too...I wanted to know a bit of how it was done because it was so good I thought maybe you were throwin' a ringer at us...lol....gibs :D

I thank you profusely, I am flattered.
My significant other doesn't like it. It was
really the first song I engineered and re
corded, I got lucky I guess. I just wish more
people would give it a listen and opinion. I
thought maybe the topic name Just Say No would draw a little more attention.

Gee, that was great! Why was 2001 so short? Not enough space on i-drive? I loved the rhythm and the piano. I liked the interaction between spoken and sung vocals a lot. It's hard to get spoken vocals good, isn't it? On Radiohead's OK Computer, they use an effect that makes the spoken vocal sound like the Steven Hawking voice box - it works very well. I'd like the hear the whole track. So, when's the album out? :)

Just listened to First Street - completely different from 2001... impressive. Man, if you aren't a Moby Grape fan, you should be, with vocals like that. Maybe the bass was a bit boomy - I read an article recently, and the guy said mixing bass was a matter of compression, EQ and possibly chorus. Sure, I think, what do I know? Buy me a bass and I'll let you know. :)

Good work. You on the compilation CD?

First, thanx for listening. As for 2001,
its 3:21 long if its not all there I wasn't
aware of it? Will try and get it all on. Yes
I like Moby Grape alot but you are the first
to draw a comparison. I have 9 songs ready
for cd one of them being an 11 minute classical piece I did on my qs8. I have two
more songs I want to redo the vocals on before I lay them down. As for the bass I was
mixing on my pc and I wasn't hooked into the
studio monitors and was only using my cheesy
pc speakers and I guess I could have over-
compensated for the bass. Have to get the work copywrited before I try and do anything
with it. It will be entitled "A FATE WORSE THAN LIFE."

I am having a hard time getting the rest
of my music on the web; could anyone direct
me to the easiest most user friendly site
to set up my own web page where I can upload
my music to.
Thanx

Ric
