OK, I just recieved my RNC. Bought some new cables at the store. Now I was wondering... In the manual it says (and I quote):

"NOTE - Hooking up the RNC to balanced lines with TRS 1/4" plugs will not work! If the equipment you are connecting the RNC to is balanced, you must first unbalance it and only connect into the RNC with TS 1/4" plugs."

I'm not sure if I understand this statement correctly...

First here's my signal chain:

StudioProjects C-1 --> StudioProjects VTB-1 --> RNC --> SoundBlaster Audigy Platinum (Yeah, I know my soundcard sucks!)

Next, here's my question: I connect my C-1 to my VTB-1 with an XLR cable. Next, I plug my VTB-1 to the RNC with a XLR to TRS 1/4" cable. Then I plug the RNC to the soundcard with a TS 1/4" cable.

Will that work? Yes? No?

Help me!

Thanks in advance,
Beathoven

I would think you would be better off if you just go with the unballanced out on the Mic pre. But it should work the way you have it, only not as well.

The only advantage to a balanced line is hum rejection. If you ground your setup through the mic pre any current in the shield will be flowing from the RNC to the mic pre and will not pose a problem.

No, it will not.
You now do exactly as the manual says not to do. You feed the RNC with a balanced signal.
You only use TRS cables with a RNC to have an send and return in one cable. that's two signals through one cable.

use a TS-TS cable to connect the VTB-1 and the RNC

Use the inserts on the VTB-1. This way you can go out of the VTB-1 straight into the soundcard all balanced. You only need to take advantage of one cable if you're going to put the compressor into the inserts of the VTB-1.
