just recieved cakewalk sonar. I have a problem

Well i just got cakewalk sonar 2.0 but when ever i record audio or play the demo audio tracks that comes with sonar it sounds weird alittle late. the midi demos they have sound fine. I have a soundblaster live card in my computer. I have a delta 44 on its way in the mail. im not sure why it sounds weird or how to fix it. any help would be much appreciated. it shouldnt be my computer i have a 60gig hard drive and 512mb of ram.

how many rpm is your hard drive (they recomend 7200 rpm). and i strongly recomend at least that. it may be your video card as well minimize as much on the screen as you can during playback and see if that makes a difference. try muting all but one of the audio tracks in the project see how that works. let me know what happens then and let me know what rpm your hardrive is.

Most of audio problem caused by not initiallizing the audio setup propherly. Do a Wave Profiler in Options --> Audio. Well, one of my PC running 20GB 5400RPM, and 256MB (and yes, SB Live! ) no problem with the demo. You can also play around with the latency slider. (I'm not at my DAW, but I'm sure you will handle this ) And how do you describe "weird a little late" ?

I also have the problem

I was recording with Sonar and everything was going well I think I altered a setting or two in the audio options and all of sudden it is like ther eis a permanent delay---crazy latency between the time I strike the chord on my guitar and the program picking it up. This problem does not happen in Acid or windows sound recorder. Must be a software issue. I tried to run the profiler and it said it successfully profiled my card but the problem was still there.

I ran a diagnostic on the SB and when Sonar is running the midi driver comes up failed. When Sonar is off it tests fine.

Still doesn't explain the reaction between input and the program recognizig it. When I bring up the status console I can see the delay between hitting a note and the green indicator bar's response.

I'll try it though. I figured there was some kind of clocking problem.

Somebody with a Delta-card confirm this, but I'm pretty shure that the Delta offers a direct monitoring...


If you want to use Input Monitoring, then you should turn down the latency! If you don't succeed with WDM-drivers, try ASIO.

It is a P4 2.4 gig 512mb ram 7200HD
Its not just latency--it seems lik almost a 350ms delay.

I need to get a decent sound card....

You need to adjust the Buffer Setting in the Delta Control Panel aswell...

And don't forget to re-run the Waveprofiler after the adjustment.

That's what we call latency. It's common with "non audio work dedicated" card like SBLive! You're gonna need better "audio work dedicated" card like Delta, Audiophile, Inca, etc. And using ASIO mode on Creative cards will give you a bad time with 48KHz lock...
