Tested a brand new Maxell XLII-S against a new TDK SA-X and here are my results albeit not a pro test.As far as sound quality i did'nt here much of a difference on my Sony TCKA-3ES 3 head deck although the Maxell was easier to calibrate with the built in calibration test tone generators, the TDK seemed a little tempramental. The Maxell also seemed to rewind and fast forward alot quicker and alot quieter than the TDK did.The TDK felt a little lighter than the heavier Maxell tape too envokeing a more sturdier feel to the maxell. And i don't know if this matters but the TDK needed the recording level to be turned up a little more when recording the same song.So all in all the sound quality came out about the same to my ears, but all the other aspects of the two tapes considerd the Maxell XLII-S wins hands down to me,but this of course is just my observations so other folks might have opposite conclusions.PEACE to everyone!!!
