Well I just got a new SM94 unidirectional condenser mic. It needs phantom power to work and I've given it a test run and it works awesome!! I put a AA battery in it and I also plugged it into my edirol da-2496 audio interface. My question is, for the mic to stop using the power, do I need to unplugg it from the interface? The mic doesn't have an on/off switch so I'm assuming it's consuming power if it's plugged in....and also, how long would a battery last in the mic? Thanks

Here's an update on the question. I found out that the battery can make it last for up to 5000 hours.

But the question is still there. Do I need to unplugg the cable so it stops using power? Or if I turn the volume of the mic all the way down, will it consume less power?

:) Wormy; remove the battery when you are done, this will save battery, and if the battery should decide to leak, the mic won't be damaged.
