Its not a huge difference.

It seems like there is a slight bit more headroom. They still saturate like any EL84 tube, but they seem to clean up a bit better with picking technique than the stock GrooveTubes(Sovtec) that came in the amp.

I plan on getting a second ProJunior so I will A/B the tubes when I get it. But until then, I am happy. If I could do it again, I probably would not have bought the tubes for the sake of "upgrading", I would probably have waited until I blew the stock ones. But they are still nice, and I can have some back up tubes now when I need them and not have to wait for a store to open. :D

Try some old RCAs, or better yet,..... west german EL84s,.... both make the new stuff sound like toys,.....

not really,... but a VERY noticable difference,....

I will even send you a couple so you can hear for yourself.....

Steve :D

i really like the jjs i put in my ampeg v2, they have alot more head room than most other tubes i have tried in it. plus they are one of the very few that will actuall hold up to the voltages this beast puts out, so i really dont have much of a choice.
i have been meaning to try out a set in my soldano astroverb, but ive got a set of ei elite tubes for it i have yet to put in, but at the rate this puppy goes through el84's (faster than an ac30, it runs really hot), it may be good to have 2 sets of back ups, in case one goes microphonic.

By most accounts the JJ EL84's are the best in modern production...and they'll definitely sound better than the Sovtek's! IMO the JJ 12ax7's are also the best around.

If you can afford NOS, go for it, but at $15/pair, JJ EL84's are about as cheap as a couple pairs of strings!

Their 6L6's are pretty nice too...though I've also heard the Svet/winged C's are pretty good 6L6's.
