I went out to pick up a Rode Nt1a yesterday and came home with a groove tubes gt57 instead. It's versatility won me over but not hearing it concerned me. I got it home and was very pleasantly surprised with its performance on vocals. GC had it "listed" at $699 and "on sale" for $399, I only paid $250 out the door. I'm just looking for any other opinions on the mic, good or bad, and wondering if the price I paid is below normal.

I have the gt55(the single pattern version) and I like it alot. Its kind of bright, but without being harsh. What style of vocals are you using it for? I've used mine for rap, r&b, and a little rock. Even if you buy a mic you like better for vocals you will still find a use for it on instruments.

Hey! I just called my local GC and they have a couple GT-55s left. I was wondering if anyone know's how these mics compare to the MXL 960 mogami ed. that i already have. I was thinking the the GT-55 might be an upgrade but I'm not sure. I use the MXL mostly for recording rock type vocals. Thanks to anyone responding...

Well if you get your gt55's from GC don't pay more than 150. I know for a fact they can do that price. I paid 100 more for the gt57 so I could have the pad, filter, and mulitpatterns. Like I said before the gt57 smokes the baby bottle on vox(mostly rock). Solo'd the mic sounds kind of thin but in a mix it sounds absolutely wonderful, its really making me wonder why the hell the baby bottle is 600 bucks. I can say the baby bottle is much hotter but also has some kind of mid range honkiness I really don't like and it really seems to prevent the vocals from sitting in the mix well. BTW the gt57 and gt55 are exactly the same capsule so they should sound very similar if not identical. I'm just really wondering what most people picked up their gt57's for, I see some places still selling them at $420 and on ebay there's one going for around $280 US, just like having the satisfaction of knowing I didn't haggle for no reason.
