Just a truss rod adjustment?

I bought a cheap SX bass guitar just to mess with. There's a buzz in just the first frets. The rest of the guitar plays nicely. Is this just a simple truss rod adjustment? I took it to a shop, and they fixed the intonation, but a buzz was left.

If it's something I can do, I'll do it. But if it's a better idea to take it back to the shop, I can do that as well.

Thanks.

Sounds like a low nut. A small shim - like a little piece or two of copier paper - under the string that buzzes where it breaks over the nut might do the trick enough to test the theory.

If it only buzzes while playing on the first few frets, it sounds like the neck needs "relief", ( a little forward bow). Loosen the truss rod about a half turn and see if it gets better. This will also raise the action slightly. You may be able to remove the buzz , then lower the action slightly at the bridge.(Remember the adjustments you make, in case you want to reverse the procedure). Experiment a little... you won't damage anything. If all else fails...Take it to a shop for an adjustment.
Old, or poor quality strings can also cause the string to vibrate in such a way that they buzz. If it only recently started doing this....this could be the problem as well.

Take it back to the shop. If you paid them for a setup and you still have significant buzz, they should make any necessary adjustments for free.

GOOD POINT SCRUBS!!!! Hey, stuff is too expensive these days for you not to be satisfied with the job.... You would send a $13.00 steak back if it was tough wouldn't you??? I would!
