That's a good point. I have seen nothing from the OP yet to indicate he has a mic preamp oustide of a soundard, let along one with phantom power.
'flo, just because a microphone looks like a $3000 Neuman doesn't mean it'll sound like one. I'd skip the cheap entry-level condensor and get a microphone that'll be much more versatile and durable, like an SM57. Then use the $20 you save either for the mic cable or for a beginner's book on home recording.
