July Thing

As others have said....very Stones.

The overall sound has a bit of hollowness to it....like it was recorded in an empty room sort of.
Not bad, but just has somewhat of a "distant" vibe to it...and you could punch up the overall level a bit.

Are there vocals for it?
It really needs that....without the melody line it's kinda unfinished...but I'm sure you don't mean it to be just an instrumenta....right?

Rob Green,
I'm not as angry as Mr M.E.Smith but I take the comparison as a compliment. Their poppier stuff was just that compared to their obdurate opusi. They just seem to record on the run don't they. Write it, bang it down & move on. There's a certain beauty to their rough hewn rock.
For my part my long term collaborator is concentrating on retracking vocals from the incomplete part of our archive. My longest term collaborator (back to 1976) is focussing on a three new tunes we have started but remain incomplete as he's in the process of moving house & continent. Most of my recent (PB Aug) collaborators are very busy with their own projects so I have 4 tracks in various stages of completion: some with a guitar solo, some with real drums and none with keeper vocals at present THOUGH I do have a jaffle iron on the edges of a fire that may come up with something toasty in the near future - I'm not saying/doing much for fear that it may end up in smoke.
Thanks for the kind words.

Miro,
I was going for a Blues Rock kind of...nah, kidding!
It sounds a little better with some treatment on the master bus but I've not uploaded one of those. The low levels don't help much either I suppose. I couldn't do an instrumental mate, I'd have to come up with some sort of melody to do that & I'm a dead loss at melody.
No vocals yet but lyrics are done, as they are for the other three tracks cooling their heels at present.
My aim is simple: get it as far as I can go & hope that someone is intrigued enough to want to collab.
Thanks for your kind words.

I've not been in the studio for a while, Ray ... but I may take a whack at a vocal on this ... if you don't mind. I don't know if it will come to anything ... but the progression popped some melodies in my head.

I didn't say anything about your music. It's funny how you take everything as an insult and are quick and eager to fight back. Insecure much? Relax dude.

Yes you do...you always make fun of Blues/Rock stuff..... :D

It's OK...it's all just fun, I didn't take it as an insult.
Maybe you should relax. ;)

Lol. Riiiiiight miro. :laughings: :laughings:

I don't consider your music blues, rock, or blues-rock, so whatever. I wasn't making fun of you.

You were making fun of blues rock....I like blues rock (no secret).
But I knew it was just for fun....and I poked fun back at you. :D
Didn't mean to ruffle you feathers...sorry.

Hey....I even like the Ramones! :)

Hey rayc....next song, do the blues....and I'll do a blues tune also! :D ;)

Technically, this has blues overtones, but it's not blues. Nor is it rock ... rock these days is the bastard child of country music.

What I'd really like to see is an amalgamate of surf-punk-blues-rock-country ... kind of Achy Breaky F-U because I'm sad having to drive off in my T-bird.

If anyone can do it....Greg can, and I mean that in a nice way.
He's done some cool-bizarre twists to his staple surf/punk flavor on a few tunes in the past.
I'm sure he can meld some of that also with country rock.

And yeah...you're right "Rock" don't rock like it use to....and "Country" is all fucked up IMO, and It's completely lost it's image and direction, but this modern shit sells more than anything before.....go figure.

Sorry for quick side track, Ray ... but you're right M ...

I was listening to "modern" today as I waited to get my hair cut (yes, what's left still needs cutting) :) . The song was pleasant, vapid, and predictable. It's sounded like "Soylent Green". I knew the band ... "Moronic 5" ... but can I recall the song? Nope. Why? Because all that's asked for these days is "wallpaper music".

If folks don't understand what I'm saying, then at least listen to Alice Cooper.

Here's a pass at it, Ray ... I ran w/ your original title. :)

I was kind of going for a Strokes/Stones thing ...

July Thing

It's just a July lie thing
What goes comes around
You cannot really quite believe

In any July lie thing
Go rolling into nothing
And tumbling into everything

Maybe nothing is real
Maybe never noticed
Maybe don't know what to feel

About a July lie thing
Its just a passing whimsy
Forgetting has its own appeal

I've got nothing to say
(I've got nothing to say)
... and no one listens
... anyways

Why are you so afraid?
Don't be chicken hearted
Freaking out on everything

It's just a July lie thing
Summer's heating up
Getting hotter every day

So hang on tight to the wheel
White knuckle rides
Sometimes have their own appeal

I've got nothing to say
(I've got nothing to say)
... and no one listens ... anyways

Instrumental 2x

It's just a July lie thing
What goes comes around
You cannot ever quite believe

In any July lie thing
Go rolling into nothing
And tumbling indirectly

Maybe nothing is real
Maybe never noticed
Forgetting has its own appeal

It's a July lie thing
It's just a July lie thing
It's just a July lie
It's just a July lie

Just played this on my laptop -- and oops about the 'metadata' ... :)

Remember also ... this is a rough draft pass. I think it can be improved. It is tentatively sung.

kevin,
that's pretty swift & very well done. I enjoyed the listen.
I'm going to have a listen on my digital player so that I can thing at the same time - the computer distracts me too much.
Thanks for the cool stuff thus far.
