Do you do your own drumming?

It's hard to make out the chorus lyrics. I'd like to make them out. I'd like to make out with them.

Juicy one.
Yep chorus vox need either more volume or more clarity.
Otherwise the melody & vocal is neat neat neat.
Beck with better samples & songs!

Oh my. How forward...you only just met!

I did a new mix just now (replaced old link in 1st post), and turned the weird falsetto vocals up some...any better? I'm singing, "the whole world is a fruit cup, and we're swimming in the juice at the bottom", for what it's worth.

I play drums on some of my stuff, yes, but not this. I wish I could get my little kit sounding all nasty like this. These are loops that I cut up and distorted.

Thanks ray. Kind of cliche here with a Bush sample (Beck did use George Sr. in some track a long time ago now that you mention it) and some of the other sounds, but hopefully unique in some ways too. I tried to address the chorus vocals with more aggressive comp and a slight fader boost. I replaced the old link with a new one in the 1st post. Thanks again.

Very cool...do you ever listen to Supreme Beings of Leisure?
Has that vibe....except they have a chick singer who really kills, but your vocals are great too. :D

Thanks miro. I'd never heard of them, no. I just listened to "never the same" on you tube and it was pretty cool.

I heard their beat and the bass and thought, yeah, that's sort of like the retro/yet current sound I was going for, but then they had all these awesome breaks and electronic shit sprinkled in, and I realized that was out of my league, and that I'm probably a couple of decades shy of "current". Thanks a lot! Plus, they actually have real singing. :)

I really, really liked the sound of this. If there's anything that really gets me going it's the sound of real drums in an extreme-sounding room. I think this could be an excellent start to a more involved project.

wow, dude thats excellent...it has everything I like about your stuff in one track

Id bring the vocals up a tad, but otherwise its rough n ready, the rappings great, like the Beastie Boys "Check your Head" in vibe, love it

This line above sums it up for me.

Sounds really good mate. I would probably bring the bass down just a very tiny amount which would help with the vocals shining through but that just a personal thing. (I'm a contradiction bassist) I really like the roomy drums sound. In fact I really like all of it.

Top stuff! :thumbs up:

swimming in the juice at the bottom...complete with sonar pings. Brilliant! Whole thing is very well done!

Awesome. Thanks Bubba.

Thank KC. I love that album! I'm not sure I can withstand higher levels of these vocals, but maybe I'll give that a try. I actually turned the versesdown a bit after the first mix I did :).

Cool Mr. C. Thanks for listening. Yeah, the bass is almost obnoxiously loud, isn't it? It's kind of the sound I wanted for this though, so I think it stays as is. I'm too scared to fuck with it now. :) I appreciate the encouraging words!

Thank you! What strange lyrics on this one, huh? I found the chorus scribbled on a sheet of paper from many years ago. The verses were added just the other day. Thanks again.

Very cool tune - it has a unique fresh sound to it. Listening to the latest version...Bass is good do not change it!
The drums work well with this but I'd take them down a hair if it were me. I'd bring the high vocals up just a little more for clarity. Or maybe more compression would bring them forward?? Whatever - minor nits. I just like the overall vibe - all sorts of interesting parts combined perfectly. "I wish I could write a song like that"

Thanks a lot ido! That's a couple more votes for louder vocals....hmmm. There's room for that certainly, but I'm still not sure. Drums and bass definitely dominate on this one.

You could totally do something like this if you wanted to. I think it's a good bit easier than the kind of stuff you do...meaning, actual songs. :)

Thanks again.

Do you like the Gorillaz?

Reverby mix but it sounds like you were going for that. Big drums with a lot of "jammed" sounds.

I personally like my bass with some more mids.

I liked this mix.

Nice one Heat. I always like to hear you rap. I love the growly voice you put on and as usual the lyrics are spot on. I feel like that sometimes too. :) I agree with what everyone else has said, this encompasses all that is good about your music. Stylistically, it's bang on with what I like to listen to, and the mix sounds perfect.

Fun and whimsical tune! Great stuff.

Love the vocals. The changes between the rappy verses and the falsettoy chorus are very cool.

The keys on the right are fighting for my attention a little bit too much I think. Despite being panned out hard, I am finding that they are masking the vocals here and there as well. I think they work out to the side, but maybe if you dulled the transients on them a bit to push it back in the mix, and dropped them down a little, they would coalesce a little more with the vocals and the rest of the song elements.

Sweet wah bits!

I like the roomy drums in contrast with the drier instruments. There's a lot of content in the low midrange, a lot of which seems to be coming from the drums, but it doesn't make the mix sound muddy at all. It kind of puts a stamp on the character of the mix. I like it a lot.

Thanks Schwarz. I think I like Gorillaz, yeah. I've only heard a few of their tracks on DJ Hero and a few other places though. My son used to love them.

I get what you're saying on the bass, but I think this sound works for this particular track? I was going for a deep, almost flabby sound like a standup bass, although I realize this doesn't sound like one specifically. Thanks again.

Awesome. Thanks Frits! Very encouraging. It took 4 or 5 times through with the rapping to find where to catch my breath and exactly how to phrase things to get it to fit, and by the end, my voice was breaking up quite a bit. It was unintentional, but I liked the effect, and apparently you do too! I'm glad you had a chance to listen and that you enjoyed it. :)

Thanks for the detailed analysis kindafishy. Good stuff.

I think you could be right about that organ off to the right. I got hung up on that older, grainy sort of tone from the hammond and just couldn't bring myself to lower it, but I think it may distract or get in the way at times too. I think I'd need to ride the fader or use automation or something as I like it right where it is during instrumental passages, but agree it could come down when there's "singing" going on. Thanks for the idea!

Ah, cool stuff Pete. I remember hearing the first version of this on your page with just the high chorus vocals. Great to hear you adding a rap verse to it. I agree that the rap vocals could possibly come up a touch, but it's no deal breaker.

The instrumentation coming back in after the GWB sample sounds wee bit off beat to me, like it's slightly rushed or something? I dunno, I think that's what it is, I'm a bit rusty at the moment.

Other than that it's all good and nice to hear something new from you with vocals on
