I was about to purchase a Line 6 Flextone II combo but now that Johnson has authorized drastic price reductions (Musician's Friend, Sweetwater etc), their amps are looking very good to me and my $600 budget. The amp will be used strictly for practice and recording. I have never bought an amp before so I'm looking to you for some guidance. Your comments are greatly appreciated.

That's a hard one to call. For what it's worth, I have a AX2 with the foot controller, a POD 2.0 and a Johnson J Station. In my experience with these I like the J Station the least, sound wise. The AX2 is an awsome amp IMHO. On the other hand I've heard some music made on the J Station that kicks my ass (Sami, are you out there?).
I know you're asking about full amps here and not just the modelers but thats just my 2 cents. I think I'll get another cup of coffee and spin one .

IMHO, the Flextone sounds better.
The Johnson amps are cool, but don't sound as realistic to me. Sort of too processed and digital...like some of the Digitech stuff. But maybe that is due to me only messing around with the default patches.

Head down and check them both out. Maybe the Johnson is just what you're looking for. And saving a couple bucks isn't such a bad thing :)

I got to use my friends Flextone for a few weeks. Really nice having alot of decent tones at your fingertips. But I gotta be honest, I wasn't completely blown away at the time. I'd love to have one now though :)
He was gonna sell it to me for $200. Because he bought it for his girlfriend as a gift but they broke up, and she wanted it back and wouldn't give it back to him to sell to me. That bitch ;)

For the price, the Johnson's are hard to pass up though...I'm tempted to go pick up a Johnson combo myself.

FWIW, I had the DigiTech 2120 which is very similar to one of the Johnson amps. Tons of effects, but I had to get rid of it because the basic tone was so bad (IMHO). It always sounded over processed and never gave me a great ballsy sound despite tweaking it for years.

I dig on the Johnson amps... Killer rigs, in my book. I'd pick a Johnson over a Line6 almost any day. With the exception of like the new Vettas... those are siiiiiick. hehe..

I finally got a chance to plug into the JM60 combo and have to agree it sounded too digital for my liking. I have to admit, the JM120 (120 watts stereo w/twin 12") for the price ($499) was very tempting as oppopsed to the Flextone II (60 watts w/one 12") for ($599) but such is life. I wasn't too wild about the idea of buying a discontinued model but then again, that is a whole lot of amp for the money. That's why I asked you seasoned vets for your comment/recommendations. Thanks for all the feed-back.
