I saw John Scofield and his new band at Yoshi's in Oakland last week. If you have heard his new record Uberjam, you have an idea what it was like. Funky, lots of burbling and bleeping loops dropped in here and there, some sample guitar captured earlier and released later, lots of use of effects - notably a whammy pedal and a extreme chorus setting that sounded almost like a ring modulator. All played by a sterling group of young players with a lot of enjoyment and humor. Scofield played fabulously. Great show.
