I just bought a joemeek q3 out of the box. I didn't get an adapter w/ it. Does anyone know--can I use any old 12 volt adapter that fits, or does it require something special? The manual warns not to use any adapter other than the one it should come with...something about the unusual circuitry and phantom power. I certainly don't want to mess up the unit, but I'm really itching to get it hooked up.

Thanks
Michael

i had the same problem with my vc3q.. dont go to the website they charge $25 and shipping. plus you dont want to deal with that crap. Go to your local electronics store and get a standard 12VAC adapter. just whatever you do, dont get 12VDC. it has to be AC and get at least 1000mA, and if it doesnt come with the little cable just get a DC plug that will fit it.

The power supply is an integral part of a preamp design. You should always use the power supply that is intended for it or one that is proven to give better results. I wouldn't go use a generic supply just to save $15. If you bought it new and they didn't give you one then contact Alan at PMI and he will probably take care of you.

i dunno about that...i emailed them and a guy replied saying that any 12VAC with at least 1000mA adapter would do the same trick. mine has been working great.

"Any" 12VAC 1000mA adaptor will work, it does not have to be ours. Just make sure the connector is a snug fit. We do charge $25.00, but the freight is included to the 48 states, and yes, you can find one for less.

Thanks everyone. After searching all my boxes of misc. stuff, I ran across my old fostex 4 track adapter. It's not exactly the correct voltage, but it seems to be working fine. If it was going to damage the unit or give poor performance, woudn't it have already done so after several hours of use, or could it cause gradual deterioration? The MEEK is REALLY ROCKING!!
