Hi folks. How come the Joe meek stuff has such little info? I woukld love to have a twinQ, but that's a little steep. Do they have a two-channel pre with the compressor and eq without the dugutal out that the twinq has? Is the twinq preamp the same as in the 3q, with dual channels and digital out? What about the 6q british, is that pre as good as the ones in the twin q? I am trying to figure out what pres are in the different units. Do the 3q, the 6q and the twinq all have different pres? At two hundred, it seems reasonable to expect that the 3q is the same pre as the Twin but the twin having two pres, with digital output. How much better is the 6q pre compared to the 3q? Are they better than the older VC#q and VC^q british? Damn, I wish these people would let possible buyers like me find out some basic info on these units. I want to know what I am buying. I don't want to pay 800 for a twinq, only to find out that the pres are the same in the 3q, and that the extra cost is for the extra channel and the digital outs.

Frustrating

Jeff

Meeks

I don't have much to tell you, but I have (and just posted som) on the VC1Q.
Its a PRE-CS and PRE-PMI...yadyayadada

Of course the news will be better per most salesguys. How do you know?
are they messing with the "original recipe"??

....my 2cents is these things are of a different nature....
they are not transparent, and easy
to make them sound like totally different units by turning of a knob? from distorted "wht the fhk!!!" , to pumping, to "SHSHSHHSHSHSSSSSSHHHIITTT"
to "damn I got that Abbey Road vocal sound !!! finally!!!! whooohoooo!!!"

its hard to explain sounds....
read my Recording Techniques post, its a little interesting. definatelty most fun i had this weekend...Joe Meek was picked.

Jeff - skip the older stuff because it's unsupported now. You can't get spares or repairs.

I've got a VC6Q, are you saying I cannot get this serviced if it broke?

You should wait for Mr. Alan Hyatt to answer that question... because PMI-AG has one of the best (if not the best) electronic equipment warranties on the planet earth... and even tho it may be a unit made before PMI-AG took over Joemeek, I would be very surprised if PMI-AG didn't help you. PMI-AG even takes care of second owership units.

DJL's right - they offer informal support where they can help, I think. I read on their forum that they would do what they could for someone with a dodgy one of those old Meeks that goes in a PC, but that they didn't have any parts for it as far as they knew.

Wow, what great info. Thanks so much. The 3q sounds very enticing.

If the TwinQ is too expensive, then get two threeQs. They're the same preamp, as you guessed. I asked Alan this a little while ago and here's his answer:

Alan is at Musikmesse and then Sounds Expo for the next two weeks so he probably won't catch this post... so I decided to chime in.

In the past our policy has been to fix the old Joemeek stuff - regardless of how long ago it was sold, at no charge to the end user UNLESS the unit was damaged by negligence or mis-use. I've seen units repaired that were over 5 years out of production, and returned to the owner at no charge for the repair. That kind of dedication to a product line is unheard of in our present day industry. I know of no manufacturer who does this.

One difficulty with policy is that we don't have a huge back stock of the old parts, so sometimes we've needed to wait until we got a unit in as an "upgrade" so we could part it out.

Alan personally fixes most of the units, and let me tell you - it's a time consuming proposition.

Recently we had an in-house discussioin about changing the way we deal with out of warranty repairs. It's becoming obvious to us that we'll need to begin charging for the out of warranty repairs. Now, before you go off on me, understand that this is not policy yet.

Closing, it's worth mentioning that we will upgrade the older units to new models (as the appropriate units become available) for a nominal charge. This is typically a KILLER deal for you guys - and I urge you to take advantage of it. The new stuff is WAY better.

Thank you very much Reid.

I'll be looking into upgrading my VC6Q!

I'll be looking into upgrading my VC6Q!

The first shipments of the new sixQ should arrive here in our warehouse sometime in the next 12-14 weeks. OneQ's will arrive at the same time, with MC2's a few weeks later. We are VERY excited about the new products. Reports back from users on the new twinQ have been excellent. I'm waiting for the oneQ for my rig!

Cheers,

Thanks Reid,

I like my VC6Q but I'm leaning toward a TwinQ to get the dual channel. I'm constanly switching my 6Q settings for either acoustic guitar or Vocals. A dual channel pre would really help me out.
