jobs in music tech

Hey,
what are the main jobs in music tech?? i'm going for a btec in music tech at leeds music college (UK). what jobs are around and are they easy to find and well paid? (how much??).. i was thinking of working in film, sound for that or maybe gaming is this possible, i am currently using pro tools at home, also live 5 an reason, only aged 16 so got alot to learn first!!

The two professions you mentioned, movie and game sound, are both possibilities. Sound engineering jobs are pretty much everywhere live and recorded sound are. A few examples: studio engineer, mastering engineer, digital audio editor, film/tv live sound, film/tv post audio, live sound engineer, studio tech, etc. Audio engineers in general aren't paid great unless you are working for one of the big companies and are well connected. Small jobs are fairly easy to come by if you are in the right location, (i.e. In the U.S. - Nashville, L.A., New York). For good jobs, for the most part, you need to be well connected, amazing, or lucky (probably all 3). The industry is extremely competitive and you have to be willing to put up with a lot of shit. On the plus side you get to earn a living doing what you love. Good luck.

Actually there's quite a few jobs out there available to us. From setting up presentations for companies, to making sure concert speakers are calibrated right. Many of those type of jobs, pay a decent amount. I know that a friend of mine, had to calculate speakers for Bass Performance Hall, made around $25K for the team of 4.

Agreed. There are lots of ways to make a good and interesting living in audio.
