Cranked my Marshall stack to 11
the day he died.
Hat off to the guy that gave rock it's sound.

RIP Guv'nor.
I don't think I miss the point at all. Jim Marshall's accomplishments only impacted one genre of music--rock. Les Paul's accomplishments and inventiveness impacted not just one genre of music, but the entire recording industry--which impacted all genres of music. When you look past the actual artists and bands that helped shape popular music, then look beyond the songwriters, engineers and producers, there are a series of people behind the scenes who were crucial in the development of rock, some of whom are fairly well known, some of whom we've not really heard of. The issue at hand is not how many things they pioneered but the lasting impact of whatever they pioneered. There isn't really a hierarchy or big league of pioneers, Leo fender, Les Paul, Jim Marshall - these and others invented and made better the tools that artists and engineers used and as such, helped shape things in a way that would not have happened without their input.

true but it couldn't be overdubbed before les Paul. The Les Paul sounded like a wimpy POS before it got plugged into a Marshall.

I'm with ya' man.Lol. Okay then.
I don't see why some people got offended and defensive by me saying Jim Marshall is up there with Les Paul as far as rock icons go. I didn't say he was better or more imortant, I said he was up there. Jim Marshall was very important. Still is. His amps are everywhere. It's not a contest.![]()
I'm with ya' man.
I also don't understand why people get mad about such things.
First ...... it's hard to compare such disimilar people and they have both had major impacts but in really different ways so how do you even compare that?
Secondly neither one of them is my daddy so why would I get mad over the historical legacy of someone I don't even know?
Both of them will have their names spoken by musicians for many many years after their deaths ........ more than any of us will ever get so i guess they both pwned me!

Right. They're different and had very little to do with eachother besides their respective names being synonymous with rock and roll guitar. There's plenty of room for both, along with Leo Fender, Ray Butts and Seth Lover. All those guys made huge contributions to rock and roll guitar.
Dont forget Lyndon Laney.

No one cares about your spam. sorry man.
his amps were definitely on some important albums but he is not and won't be, the household name that Les Paul and Marshall are.It is not "Spam". It is History. He is a significant factor in English produced amplifiers just like Jim Marshall. Tony Iommi's backline has consistently been Laney Amps. I think the fact that Lyndon was in the "Band Of Joy" is even more remarkable.

Maybe in European households. Laney has been huge in Europe, they are just starting to reemerge here, thanks to the "Foofighters".

I didn't know Laney amps also made Gibson, Fender, Mesa, Vox, Marshall, Roland, Peavey, Gretsch, and HiWatt equipment. That's the stuff the FF's regularly use. I've seen them live twice. Don't recall seeing any Laney gear.
Stop trolljacking this thread though. Seriously.
I'm just telling you what they use live and have used since their inception. I've seen them live, I've seen them recently on TV, they didn't have any Laney equipment. I know you're suppsedly a "Laney dealer", so stop spamming this thread.
For real dude, please stop trolljacking this thread. This thread is for paying respects to Jim Marshall.
