My friend the jazz saxophonist came over and recorded a solo over an Aeberesold track. This was recorded in the treated room with a spaced pair of MSH SDC omnis into the PCMCIA Soundblaster and Cubase. A bit of Pantheon and compression, too. Please listen here.

Enjoyed listening. The sax sound sweet and clear. Some bite in its tone in the high register but knowing how the MSH mikes sound I'm imagining that's the way it sounded live.

Wow, man, mature sound. Mature ideas, a very nice, extended vocabulary, without a hint of pretense or ostentation.

It's a mite pitchy in places, mostly in the upper register (is he playing a wide mouthpiece? Did I say that right?), but hey, this cat could cut solos for me anytime. I like the ideas he strings together. A lot of cohesiveness in general, but especially for a wee beastie. Should have extended that cadenza; sounded like it was gonna go somewhere fun...

He's a good friend of britt and after a bizarre set of circumstances his sax was here and he needed to pick it up Monday, and he wanted to come over for Heroes anyway, so I called and said, "Dude, can you get here at 8?" and I scrambled to get everything set up. I'm pleased, though. I'm picking off the Yamaha MG10/2 pres through the inserts and feeding them into the laptop 24-bit Soundblaster. mshilarious's mics are the bomb, too. And I can't get over how important it is apply acoustic treatment to a room.

Yep, he's a right rat bastard ;-)

Plays well beyond his years.

Small hint - Tell him to practice more on long even tones though so that the held notes are more even.
