I didnt read the whole thread but Ive some experience with drum software, though limited knowledge of drumming lol...Ive started using an alesis pad with two pedals (kick and HH)...great for simple rhythms and learning

I think snare and kick parts are fairly easy then you can us midi for high hat patterns...I just bought the Gen16 Digital Vault Z-Pack for Cymbals and high hats

I know there are good drummers in here, and nothing will beat a kit...but there are options for playing in an apartment cheaply, besides remember when playing with others

Bass players - forget when the bridge is coming.

Drummers - forget to show up on time.

Guitar players - forget to turn down after solo

Singers - attention sucking, grandstanding glory hounds

Harmonica players - never quit honking, step on everyone

Sax players - useless without notation, suffer from harmonica player disease

Conga players - who, surely thats a loop?

Oboists - wankers

Glockenspiel players - always smiling, show up in a neat, crisp uniform and ready to march!


Only ever form bands with glockenspiel players, use software for the rest

This is my biggest pet peeve with guitarists. I don't care that they're faggy and flamboyant and totally insecure about everything. That's fine. I just hate that they can't fucking stomp a pedal at the right time. How friggin hard is it to know that your lead is coming up? Hey, you might wanna think about strutting over to your gay assed pedal board because you're gonna need to do some tap dancing here real soon. Ooops, he missed it. 2 measures in, here comes a flood of flanger and he finally kicked in his lead boost. Great, thanks for that. Nothing sounds as professional as a lead suddenly becoming 20 db louder right in the middle. Uh oh, your fucking scale exercise is almost over, here we go back into the song, okay we're all back in, the singer is singing, why the fuck are you still so loud? Halfway into the chorus he kicks off the lead boost. Great job.

Jamstix = spend as much time as you usually do tediously editing drum patterns and then run them through a program that will fuck them up.

I find a drumstick thrown at a medium velocity to the rib/back area helps a guitarist memory. If the the guitarist extends the lead break even when the rythym section is transitioning out, that fuckin stick is commin at full speed!

I always enjoyed the 'accidental' loosing hold of stick on cymbal hits. Funny how they always managed to hit the guitar player.....

I think the same could be said about anyone not hitting timing marks
But yeah too loud where it isn't supposed to be can be a real pain in the arse.

does anybody use jamstix or have a recomendation as to how to get a human drum sound from Battery/EZDrummer/Maschine/Storm Drum/etc.?
(other than using a human, that's cheating.. )

I just picked up a copy of BFD eco Acoustic drum software. From the initial couple of hours I have been playing around with it it is giving fairly realistic drum sounds.
The set up is through a mixer type consol so control is good and there is readily adjustable swing, BPM and so forth.
Plus you can use a midi keyboard/pad to control input or just use the preset stuff.
As I said good so far.

thanks. I think you are the winner in the first person on this thread to actually respond to the original question about Jamstix (still happy with all the other responses).
So its a thumbs down for you? It goes on sale on Monday. I was planning on picking it up.

I own Jamstix 3, & have to admit, it's pretty complicated to be honest. Sure, it's got some good things that seem really cool, & would work in theory, but actually getting the program to do all of it is another story. But, I haven't used it a lot, I've had it a while, but again, not used it a lot. I only use it to generate different fills (which it's good at, usually will never play the same thing twice when hitting the "compose" button to auditon fills) most of the time, as I'm ok at programming beats for the most part.......

Again, in theory, it's great, comes with 17 different "drummers", a couple kits (which I never use), & the owner/creator Ralph, will go out of his way to help you out. It's definitely got potential, but it's really complicated (to me anyway) & deep....

Maybe somebody else will chime in to give an opinion, as I really don't use the program to it's full potential....

Complicated is fine for me because I believe if you end up with the “Fisher-Price” version of something it might be simple, easy to learn in 3 minutes, but it also means you won’t get the results you want.

I bought it today because it was on sale for 50% off!

I expect to use it like salt. A little goes a long way, and to sprinkle a little here and there. I’m glad to hear the owner is good on his support. So many places just throw crap over the wall and leave it to you to figure out.
