James Brown - I feel good

Listening to this, I'm trying to imagine sam jumping down into a split w/a lit joint in one hand, and a mic in the other. Goooood remake... lots of grind... got the smiley EQ thing going still... a to hell with it. The dang thing sounds great; the arrangement works great, your Ebowing is awesome... & IMO your vocals aren't bad at all. They don't sound timid--maybe bored--but not timid. Doesn't sound like you're mocking the godfather of soul at all. Has MrQ got to hear this yet?

Do you think holding the mic makes a major difference? I find that I cant get into it unless I'm holding the mic

Which "mic" are you holding while singing? That could make a major difference     :p

Well Michael Jackson can't sing w/out grabbing his "mic", either. Welcome to the big-time, Sam! :D

hell yeah!!!!!!!!

man!!!!!!! this is great!!!! it sounds like you had fun doing this tune!!!!( and it shows!!!):D

forgive me, but what the hell are you using for your git sound??
i know you have posted your chain before, but i have the memory span of a gnat!!! i want that big distorted sound you have!!!!!!!!!

disclaimer.......i know that talent plays a huge roll in "sound". but you need a base to work from( i know there is no magical "fix"):D

thank's for another ROCKER, sam!!!!!!!!!!

peace

rick

Sam.............this is freakin' GREAT!
As a sax player....I've grown to hate this song 'cause when I sit in with bands that aren't used to having sax....they always want to do this song and my 'sitting in" consists of that dah-dah-dah-dah-dah-dah-dah! Part. Whoopeee!
So I was expecteing the same old lame arrangement. hey; it's great if you're James Brown but for everyone else....it's lame.
But then this kicked off and I'm blown away. I'm gonna bring this to my daughter band and get her to sing the lead. And everytime we do it....we're gonna announe that it's Black Sabbath's version. We won't be lying. :D

Great job Sam.......merry Christmas to you.

Uh...it's original. :D

I guess my problem with this is that the lyrics are very lightweight, and the music is very heavy. I feel like I'm in that Bog in "The Two Towers" rather than boppin' to a James Brown remake.

I like the guitar effects on this. And the solo is really rockin'.

The atmospheric break toward end really works for me.

If I can forget the James Brown original, I'll enjoy this. :D

Certainly original.

I was wanting the tempo more like the original and to have those James Brown directed guitar licks. But you did a credible Billy Midol-ized version. I guess I just never got into '80s rock.

Cool

Sam;

I used to sing this tune to the children when they were Babes. ;)

It's not what I expected at all, but coming from you, I should have!!! :D

Very cool re-do of this old classic! Awsome Guitar tones for the style ya did it in. Like the Sab style Geetar break.

Blessings and have a merry and safe Christ-mas.

See...now this is why I suck!!!
I usually cant see a song for anything more than the way it was originally done. You, on the other hand....I mean, James Brown??? Metal??? Ozzy???
You never cease to amaze!!!

Rock On
Mike

Killer!! How's about a Hendrix cover now?:D No really:) ..be safe man and have a Merry Christmas Sami.........................

crazy

I was wondering how this was going to sound. What a ride, well done. You are really confident with your singing which is great.

Awsome guitar on this. Enjoyed the lead at 300, very creative as usual.

Pinky -"it's ruining what are otherwise awesome concepts and recordings" I appreciate you checking out all my garbage lately, and I'm glad your critical.. I look forward to your next song! :D I have been getting lazy lately, but I will definitely be bringing out the 5 string bass for the next one.. (or the one after that) thanks!

The reason I've had a chance to do reviews is because I'm in a lull right now. After producing a lot over the past year (more than I ever had) and learning all I have, I needed a break. Problem is in getting it going again. My musical cohort hasn't been feeling well of late and that doesn't help trying to get the ball rolling either. Fortunately, our drum/loops sampler friend (lives in california) is busy coming up with stuff/toying with new loops and uploading it to my ftp site, so at least I have something to start with.

I'll PM you as I post my next tune, give you first jab ... I meant shot, k? :D

participant - hey Chad,"Which "mic" are you holding while singing? That could make a major difference" *SM 58.* You are dead on about the vocals sounding "bored." They do, and I am.. I know they could definitely be better.. I usually would have layed more harmony, but I wanted to test the basic vocal sound.. I guess the smiley e.q. happens while I'm laying down tracks because I never e.q. the mix as a whole.. Mr.Q hasn't heard it, but I doubt he would like it.. thanks for the help in the past/present and hopefully the future.. If you have any suggestions, send me a p.m. if you could.. thanks bro..

fenderlinkingood - hey Rick, " what the hell are you using for your git sound??" I'm always experimenting with different guitar sounds until I find my staple.. this song was, - guitar tuned to drop C#, into the J-Station, then into the Blue Max compressor.. I did some e.q. stuff, but nothing, major.. I doubled it.. In the second half when things get slower and lower, I also reinforced it with a phatty synth sound.. That helped to add the ultra low girth.. Actually, talent doesn't have much to do with my music.. It's all about the sound.. drop me a p.m. anytime man! thanks!

Lt. Bob - hey Steve, that's totally cool! I would love to hear it.. I was going to ask you to lay some sax to this, but I didn't think you would dig the arrangement.. thanks man!

Shakey Tee - yeah I know what you mean.. It's not really a cover, more like a loose translation.. thanks for checking it out!

drstawl - sounds like you hated it! :) thanks for checking it out doc!

Axe4Yahweh - thanks man! I have a warped sense of humor!

King Elvis - dude, you do not suck by any sense of the word! thanks bro..

David - hey man, any particular one? I would almost feel bad hacking a Hendrix tune, but I would still do it! thanks bro!

Erland - hey dude, good to see you around again! thanks for checking out my James Brown on prozac mix.. :)

Pinky - yes, definitely p.m. when you post something.. I owe you a beating! :D

I hope everyone had a great holiday!

Damn Sam, That rocked!

Now you have to do Brown Eyed Girl and really scare the kiddies.

this is fuckin' awesome dude. but i'm a sucker this kind of thing. the only thing throughout the whole thing i would've changed would be the chorus on the vocals... i think this version just cries out for distortion on the vocals. and even that really isn't a big deal (my best friend is always yelling at me for picking songs apart too much)

good job, man.

What can I say? As always..... It's depressingly great! I'm going to go throw up now! I'm still trying to figure out how to make drum patterns come togther to form whole songs! I'm so far behind! After I throw up, I'm going to go stare at my computer screen in hopes that a moment of clarity will strike me just long enough to be able to learn how to record decent sounds into it. Then, if it does, I might actually be able to record something!

Great job Sabbath!

RF

Hahah, nice.

At times, the vocals (and the ambience) kind of remind me of Peter Steele (and Type O Negative in general).

I liked it passed about 2:30, before that I thought it was a bit of a "1-4-5 chug". IMO I would shorten down the start and make more of the breakdowns.
