if it puts the lotion on the skin or not.
WTF is the matter with you people?I've caught three eyed fish from paper-mill ponds that know solid state is fucked up.You could get better tone from
two tin cans and some string.Do you actually.........Never fucking mind, you
wont get it.

Glad that's over....

Now plug my TRM40 into that Weber cab....turn it up and shut it up. :D

I use solid-state tubes in my tubestate solid amplifier.

Just because I'm feeling ornery:

Roland JC-120
Polytone Minibrute

Fucking GREAT clean tones (though I'll admit the distortion sucks ass).

It's like saying a Variax sounds just like an L5.

Pretty much the only thing good about SS amps is the non-need to retube, as well as you knowing the SS amp is reliable and going to be there for you when your tube craps out.

Opinions are like tube amps, everyone wants to have a good one, but more often than not they settle for the first piece of shit that comes along.

(see original posting for an example)

I whipe my ass with solidstate amps. I blow my load on hybrids(in a very degrading way). I worship tubes.

Jesus Christ Monkey Balls!! You can't compare SS & TT (total tubeness). I was lucky enough to be given a fender twin silverface by my uncle yeeears ago when he retired from gigging. I used it extensively - it was my first amp. I then bought a SS and the difference in sound was amazing - the twin sucked ass >WAIT< coming to a point. I then bought a mesa tube amp INCREDABLE the cleaniest clean and the dirtiest dirt full on amp sexyness.

I hated tube amps for a while due to the fact of getting an old amp that was not biased properly and had unmatched tubes and that needed recapped. But i did not know that at the time. I will do up the fender at some point but, you just can't beat tube - - - i use SS for fuzzz & mad broken sounds that's all.

Did I tell you guys about my wife's garage sale find she brought me home? It's a 62 SIlvertone 3 watt amp built by Danelectro and it's built into a guitar case. I took the amp and its 6" speaker (in pristine condition and built a box out of birch plywood around it. I LOVE this little beast. With guitar it breaks up just right when you turn it up to 10. And with a Shure Green Bullet and a harmonica it's too cool for school.

....

You could put tubes in a turd and people would buy them like hotcakes.

I have actually done this - but you don't want to hear the story.
Seriously...

OMG! Haha...I had one of those back in school Track Rat, also the guitar that came with it. The guitar got stolen, and the amp crapped out a few yr's later. That was a long, long, looooong time ago. :o

I love these guys that buy tube amps and then stick a bunch of transistor distortion pedals in front. Whadya think is giving you the distortion? Unless you are using it to drive the front end of the amp, you are getting your distortion from a transistor. Sorry to be the one to break it to you....

Just read an article about Tom Petty and Mike Campbell in Guitar Player. They were using old SS Vox Super Beatles on their last tour. I dare you to say Mike Campbell sounds bad..... :)

That's why my board has Voodoo Lab "all analog" pedals on it!

Wow, that never occurred to me before. I've been playing guitar through tube amps for nearly 40 years and it took you telling me that for it to sink in. Thanks ever so much for enlightening me. ;^)

What makes tube sound what it is is more than just distortion.
