That was fun to listen too CMiller. It all sounded real good to me, can't think of anything that it needs. Nice driving tune.

Well, it's time once again to introduce a new tune. This one is called "Leave It All Behind" and can be found at my IUMA site...
http://alphadog.iuma.com

I look forward to hearing from you! Thanks in advance.

Nice clean mix and the vocals were particularly good and right where they should be ...good tune too.......gibs

Once again great stuff. The backing vocals sound especailly cool. I'd maybe mix the drums louder and punch the bass up a little bit, and put a little less reverb on the guitar solo- to make it a little more in your face. (or maybe some wacked out effect would do the same thing - i dunno :))

This is the kind of tune you crank up the volume, put down the top and cruise. Really liked this one!

Great sound as usual, man - I was about to say that you could bring up the drums a bit, but on second thought, they'd just tread on your guitar work - I really like the intro chord - sounds like a nice x min7 :) Great vocals. Well worth the download. :)

Great Stuff!!!

Killer pre-chorus and solo!! Why can't they play stuff like this on the radio? I'd listen to the radio for a change if they did!

I'd downloaded "On The Other Side" when you originally posted that and had another listen to it... and simply you rock!!! When I get a chance I'll download the other two songs you had on your site and let you know what I think.

What song are you contibuting to the comp cd?

Nice song ! This one kind of has a RUSH sound to the guitar work . . is Alex Lifeson an influence to your style ? I enjoyed it alot.

Regards,
PAPicker

"Hot" "Hot"!! Get this man on the radio dammit! Real thight stuff man! It's one thing for your songs to be so damm good, great guitar, drums, vocals but your back-up vocals are just KILLER!! Great job as usual C/M!

David
P.S. Great mix.

Thanks for the compliments guys, I'm flattered by all of your responses. Thanks a lot!

JamesHE: This another one of my imfamous "Emergency Cassette" songs, so everything but the vocals are fixed. If I could change the drums, I'd push them up just a tad. I probably would have tweaked the lead guitar a pinch too. As always, thanks for the input.

JitteringJim: I don't know what the hell that chord is! I was just making noise! I wanted something to that was just a collection of notes...almost like a car horn.

Cooperman: Thanks man! I contributed "Reach" to the comp. It seems like almost eveyone else contributed something new...that's what I should have done. I really thought it was going to be a collection of songs that have already been posted.

PAPicker: You know, I always liked Rush but was never as big a fan as my friends were. I was more of a Van Halen/Paul McCartney/Jimi Hendrix fan. Despite that, the solo from "Limelight" is probably my favorite guitar solo of all time. By the way, I bought Alex Lifeson's "Victor" album when it came out a few years ago and loved it.

David: Thanks alot, I really appreciate the kind words. I wasn't sure how the backup vocals would play. I approached them as though they were a horn section. I wanted it to sound reminicent of the horns in The Beatles "Got to Get You Into My Life", or like "Sir Duke" by Stevie Wonder. For most songs I like them to remind me of strings. I don't know how well I did at capturing that feeling, but that's what was on my mind anyway!

Dragonworks: No I didn't. That's my friend and killer drummer Jim Pavett. He's got a studio in Tucson, AZ which almost identical to Ed's (sonusman) setup. Although, these drums were recorded before Jim got his Ghost console. He was using a Soundcraft 16-8 Spirit board at the time. We recorded his 1968 Ludwig set (he's since switched to DW which is a world apart) with Audio Technica mics on the toms and an ATM-25 in the kick. I don't remember the OH's though. Of course a 57 on the snare.

Thanks again for all the kind words guys. It's really rewarding to read such nice things about my hard work. Thanks!

CMiller, I'm a late poster again, but I just heard it and wanted to let you know I enjoyed listening to it. Great upbeat song. Bravo, mister.

I'm a late poster too ... was out of the town for the past week. Man ... I'm bookmarking this site as THE way to do it. This sounds great! Nice work. I hear the Rush influence in the guitar work too. The backing vocals really add a lot to this tune ... actually was a pleasant surprise ... in a way they remind me of some Kings X stuff.
Great sounds and I look forward to future posts!
Peace

Sorry I haven't responded guys, I've been in Chicago for a couple days. Thanks a lot Teddie & BK! I'm glad you mentioned King's X BK, I am a big fan of those guys. I particularly like the way they do their backing and lead vocals. Their vocals are always phenominal. If I can just get my hands on a 12 string bass like Doug Pinnick...hmmm.

I swear, I used to catch a lot of crap from my fanatic Rush friends because I wasn't trying to learn YYZ note for note! LOL I like Rush a lot, and I really like Alex's tone in the early days, but he really wasn't a major influence on my playing. Rush was always a little too serious for me. All my musician friends who took lessons and studied music liked Rush, but since I taught myself how to play I liked Hendrix and Van Halen.

Hey PA: Speaking of Doug Pinnick guesting on other people's projects, he's on a new Van Halen tribute album singing "Light Up the Sky" with these players...Vocals: Doug Pinnick, guitars: Yngwie Malmsteen, bass: Billy Sheehan, drums: Vinnie Colaiuta

I haven't heard it, so I can't tell you what it sounds like.

I haven't heard King's X new album (it's about a year old right?). The last one I heard was Ear Candy and it was ok. My favorite is still Dogman. Man I can listen to that album over and over. I'd love to see them live sometime. The guitarist (Ty Tabor) operates a mastering house out of his Alien Beans Studio. He also has a side project going on but I don't remember the name of it. If I remember I'll post it.

Thanks again guys!

C'mon, you can't tell me that you're not a Lifeson fan. The rhythm guitar sounds just like Rush.

I love the guitar solo. It starts building and getting to where you're just sure it's gonna go into million-notes-a-second overkill and then it sorta stutters to avoid that cliche. Great restraint there.

Like the snare drum sound, and the bckground vox.

Yeah, I get the Kings X reference in the bckground vox.

Really nice job.

John

It's nice to hear there are more KingsX fans, although I did'nt hear them in Cmillers song. I'll give it another listen.
I can't, for the life of me, see why this band hasn't made a bigger splash on the music scene. For a power trio, they have a great sound. I've been a Fan since I lived in Houston, TX in the early 90's. I was a little dissapointed with "Ear Candy" and haven't heard their latest . . . "Tapehead" or something like that. Any Reviews out there ?
It'll be hard to Top "Gretchen" or "Dogman"

Regards,
PAPicker

PS - A side note : Anybody notice Doug Pinnicks guest vocals on Dream Theatre's
1997 song "Lines in the Sand" ? Helluva Song!
