Thanks for the compliments guys, I'm flattered by all of your responses. Thanks a lot!
JamesHE: This another one of my imfamous "Emergency Cassette" songs, so everything but the vocals are fixed. If I could change the drums, I'd push them up just a tad. I probably would have tweaked the lead guitar a pinch too. As always, thanks for the input.
JitteringJim: I don't know what the hell that chord is! I was just making noise! I wanted something to that was just a collection of notes...almost like a car horn.
Cooperman: Thanks man! I contributed "Reach" to the comp. It seems like almost eveyone else contributed something new...that's what I should have done. I really thought it was going to be a collection of songs that have already been posted.
PAPicker: You know, I always liked Rush but was never as big a fan as my friends were. I was more of a Van Halen/Paul McCartney/Jimi Hendrix fan. Despite that, the solo from "Limelight" is probably my favorite guitar solo of all time. By the way, I bought Alex Lifeson's "Victor" album when it came out a few years ago and loved it.
David: Thanks alot, I really appreciate the kind words. I wasn't sure how the backup vocals would play. I approached them as though they were a horn section. I wanted it to sound reminicent of the horns in The Beatles "Got to Get You Into My Life", or like "Sir Duke" by Stevie Wonder. For most songs I like them to remind me of strings. I don't know how well I did at capturing that feeling, but that's what was on my mind anyway!
Dragonworks: No I didn't. That's my friend and killer drummer Jim Pavett. He's got a studio in Tucson, AZ which almost identical to Ed's (sonusman) setup. Although, these drums were recorded before Jim got his Ghost console. He was using a Soundcraft 16-8 Spirit board at the time. We recorded his 1968 Ludwig set (he's since switched to DW which is a world apart) with Audio Technica mics on the toms and
an ATM-25 in the kick. I don't remember the OH's though. Of course a 57 on the snare.
Thanks again for all the kind words guys. It's really rewarding to read such nice things about my hard work. Thanks!
