Man I've been working on this song since saturday and I finally did a rough draft recording today. THe only mixing I did was pan the gutiars and drums. Oh and I added some reverb too.

To me, it sounded like Black Sabbath meets Led Zeppelin. The timing is still sloppy and I only had an hour to record because my roommate is back now.
What do you think?

Besides the sloppiness (mostly in the intro), it's pretty cool. Definitely 70's feel all around. Black Zeppelin with Ritchie Blackmore on guitar. The guitar placement is cool, good panning.

That riff would sound so much better if you didn't play it so much. All the riffs sound good, just need to work on the structure.

Guitar sounds are good...as you said, timing is sloppy, tighten up a bit, nothing wrong with the tone maybe switch things up some and have a few more breaks and not so much of the rythm riffs.......overall a good sketch or outline of a cool tune....keep working on it and hammer out something you like. Not bad for someone in a hurry!!!

A definate Sabbath vibe in there, the guitar sounds sound good together. Like you said tightening up and more time to spend on it will do wonders for it, just stick with it and it'll all work out!

Well I'm going to add vocals to that "riff" that's why its a little repetitive but I'll see how it turns out and maybe change the structure accordingly.

Did MHB says sloppy? Well, yyyyyyeeeeeeeeeesssssssssssss.
Sound more like Deep Black with Tommi Zeppelin on lead. All that's needed - besides timing, tidying, solo etc - is Donie Rames Jio singingk. (or Graham Bonnet)
Is that a downtune bottom E string?
May be too many riffs for one song MHB. This could be a reference track from which to mine riffs for future metallurgy.

Definately sounds repetitive without any vocals or anything but I can tell it would sound good with them.

Cool tune, guitar tone sounds real good. What kind of amp/rig are you using?

Rayc you don't like those random riff changes? That's what I was going for actually. Kinda abstract but catchy at the same time.

As for equipment, I used an sm57 going through a VTB tube preamp and into my Lexicon Lambda recording interface. I have an Ibanez RG series with Di Marzio pickups and a Randall RG75 hybrid(tube/mosfet) amp. I had it on the less heavy gain on 4. My mids were at 6 and contour at 7. Treble at 8 and bass at 6.

i'm really glad i stumbled on to this site....it's good to see vets givin productive criticizim. i have checked out a few clips and reveiws, and nothing has been said that did not move some one in a positive derection.

kudo's to the vets!
