rock guy
hey guys im back...i havent recorded since like april because my laptop died, so i just got a new one....but im rusty. i'm going to post two songs i recently did...theyre kind of sloppy, especially the drums because i can never nail JP's drum parts...btw these are covers by the band Clutch, who many of u know i love lol....so heres two in a row off the new album,

you can't stop progress and power player:

and here's one from their self titled album, animal farm:

my questions are mainly what do you think of the guitar tone? this is me mic'ing a jcm2000 and 4x12 cabinet with a shure sm57. to me idk, i can never ever get a good sound out of the sm57 for guitars, it always sounds too small or tinny but I kind of got a decent sound on the first 2 songs (i did them yest)....the drums i know aren't big at all, but i don't have a proper kick mic or anything so idk....and the bass i did a mix of mic'ing my big 4x15 cab with a direct out from the gallien krueger head, with a sansamp bassdriver Di in front of it. so what do you guys think? any ways to get better guitar tone? took me forever just to get these! thanks =)

Your guitar and bass tones sound pretty good.

Yeah, the drums could be improved. There were a few fumbles with the beat, and the tone wasn't all that exciting.

I don't know that I've ever heard of Clutch. Do they mostly do instrumentals?

thanks =) clutch is actually known pretty much for their musical and lyrical work...you should check them out sometime. the good thing about them is each album sounds completley different. their latest, from beale street to oblivion (which is what these are off) is what they have evolved into over the past 15 years and 9 or so cd's. today, theyre very bluesey rock and it's always been about the riffs with them! should definitly check them out, and thanks for the props on the tone =)
