what did you do to make it have that sparkly tone? Like the little shimmer in the background (reverb, delay?) Nice song, the vocals sound good.

Hi

Are you referrring specifically to the vocals. If so there is reverb on the vocals but not too much. I used psp reverb which allows you to place a mic a certain distance from the sound source so you get reflections of the sound, like an actual room reflection. I find it less instrusive on the sound and helps to fill it out.

Great job

Like they say, it's not the gear, but how you use it. Great job with the mixing, and great performances. I think it sounds great, and the only changes I would make are really based on personal preference.

Over all, I think the guitars could be just a tad bit "closer". Some of that is unavoidable, and has more to do with using a guitar with a pickup vrs mic'ing a guitar. Is there a lot of verb on them? If so, maybe notch down a little. Also, maybe a slight boost in the upper mids can make the upper strings of guitars pop a little more.

I hear the 1/4 note delay on the vocals, which is nice for effect.

Great work.

pretty nice song.
I like the acoustic sound. Voice is quite good althogh I detect some pitch issues sometimes. Try to go back and fix those pitchy parts. Nice work overall.

Thanks for replies

The guitar does not have much reverb on but is double tracked panned fully left and right. I put chorus on one of the guitars which adds alot of space. My vocals are a bit pitchy i must say, but it was just a jam that i did without any practise so not too fussed. Buying new gear soon so should get better results.

Cheers peeps. :)

Do you think i should succumb to melodyne or autotune or redo vocals

I think the vocals are fine! The slight pitch issues fit the mysterious, urgent quality of the track. Plus it's an intense, well performed vocal. People overuse pitch correction so much nowadays! Just because you have it doesn't mean you need to use it on everything you sing!

It's for surgical correction of a few, read few, really out of tune notes, IMO. I always hear when a vocal has been run through AutoTune too much; the artifacts and timbre changes aren't worth it to me.

The percussion on this is wicked! Love the guitars too. Flesh out the fade on the end and this song is there.

I love the guitars on the intro to the song, wicked ideas. It kind of reminded me of something that would play during the opening credits of an artsy movie or something.

Overall, great job.

Thanks for the replies peeps, much appreciated. The guitar is ever so slightly out on the 2nd string dropped to A. It has to be in perfect tune for it to sit right. Am buying new audio interface and cond mics soon so gonna redo it and correct all issues mentioned.

Thanks again
