Thanks to all for the responses. Here's my reply to the info. you all provided:

I have a little more than $100--potentially. I don't want to spend a lot though because I am simply experimenting--I'm not quitting my day job. I basically want to see if I can come up with anything that will, in the future, warrant me spending substantial sums of money on good (even adequate) recording equipment. I want to record vocals over guitar with the possibility of adding drums and maybe some bass. I think I will be very satisfied with a cassette four-track. Do any of those have built-in microphones? Do I have to buy a mic? Plus, can I just plug my guitar into the 4-track or does it have a mic to pick that up? Plus, how do drums get recorded?

That's all for now. Thanks guys.

It will be hard to find a four track recorder for 100$.

4-track recorders do not have built-in microphones.

Some 4-tracks do have direct hi~Z guitar inputs, mine does (which is for sale, Tascam 414 mkII).

To record real drums you need several mics, then you can bounce those drum tracks down onto another track inside the recorder to make room for additional recorded tracks; otherwise get a drum machine.
