Is this a possibility?

hey everyone, I have a Fantom X7 and while I love it and its great, It was 2400$ which is quite pricey!!! :eek:

I was recently thinking, it might be a lot cheaper to just get a simple keyboard that you like the feel of, and plug it into some sort of "sound-box" that housed the patches/voices that you wanted to use..

is this a possible thing? that way you have a keyboard that is just a keyboard, it doesnt have the sounds actually in/on it at all, then you have a seperate source for your patches/voices...

I think this would be beneficial in that you have more choices of upgrading in the future because you dont have to switch out the entire keyboard, just the source of the audio...

i guess it would be similar to a midi-controller????
 
LCD Interrupting monitor placement?

I am trying to follow the guidelines found in my mixing/mastering book that says that most nearfield monitors are best placed in an equilateral triangle with each side being about 1 meter (3 feet correct?)

But when I do this, my monitor is quite a bit closer to me than the monitors and I wonder if it will get in the way of the monitors firing range..

what shoudl I do about this?

i could expand the triangle so that the monitor is less in the way but the I would be allowing the room to play more of a role in shaping the sound..
 
If your head is at the level of the middle of the monitors when you are seated in front of them then you've got it about right.

Absent some room treatment you can only get so specific about distances, and imagining your head as the third point that looks about like an equilateral triangle to me.

cool thanks, i was also reading in this mixing/mastering book I have that the monitors should be aimed down at your head about 10 degrees... but my monitor manual doesnt say anything about that, so... have you guys heard anything about this 10degrees thing?
 
That's one opinion.

Try it and see if it works for you.

I prefer my monitors straight on, but that's just me...

Give it up. Go into Anti-terrorism intelligence.

j.k. Keep at it man. You will hear the difference. It takes time, but you start picking up those nuances. I keep mine straight. Usually you want to tip them if they are sitting kind of higher that way the distance between tweeters and bass/mid and your ears is the same. If you set them at the level where they're straight on and the different drivers are still the same distance from your ears then don't worry about tipping them.
