I've been trying to do some research on the Samson CO1 and I'm not really sure. I listened to a sample and it seems to have relatively high self noise. Is there any way to fix that? Does anyone have experience with this mic and can tell me if the mic+shockmount is worth the $60. My instinct is not to buy it but I wanted to get a second opinion. Thanks.

Id pass on it...but I have to admit when I started out that I bought a Nady mic at full price...lol.

Everyone wants to jump into LDC and ends up going through alot of trash till they realise that under $500 there are very few large diameter condencers worth having.

SM57s and Beta 57s...SM58s, are cheap enough and they all sound great...and they are things you can keep on using when you are ready for the Neumann or AKG pro line stuff.

There are some sub-$500 LDCs that IMHO are pretty nice. The CAD M9 comes to mind. If you're willing to search for diamonds in the turds, you can do okay. There are, however, far more turds. The Samson mic in question comes to mind.
