Is there such a thing....

....as an endpin for a bass guitar? Or some other stand or way to play the instrument vertically, like a double bass?
I just got a bass that's really comfortable in the upright position - it plays like a cello, but I can't figure out how to hold the lil SOB. The strap attachments are on the neck and end of the body, and that's not working for me....the body's a little thin to actually try to clamp between the knees like a cello (I've tried)....I've been propping it up on a padded stool, or leaning way back in a chair when I play, which both work, but there has to be a better way....

....any ideas? Or am I just being bizarre? (More than usual....)

Could you loop both ends of a strap around a button at the neck joint? Easy enough to move a button, if there's not one there now.

I made a guitar stand so I could set the bass on it for that purpose. I'd take a picture and post it but I'm busy procrastinating right now.

That might work with the right strap.....the one I have now is a wide neoprene one that's shorter on one side, but with a thinner, symmetrical strap, that might be possible....

I was thinking about a guitar-stand mod....take that picture!

They used to make electric basses like that for a while see the cover of czerwone gitary 3 for an example. - it's not a roobar or whatever the electric dble bass thing is that Sting used.
you can buy a cello stand - it is made to accommodate the spike in the out position - that actually hugs the cello it might work for you. I quite enjoy mucking about with my cello in it's stand as I can do so standing up.

I have a friend (a really good bass player, too) who has one strap button on the front of his bass, a bit to the bass side of the lower bout, and the other is on the back side of the treble cutaway. He is a upright player originally (actually, he is the section head of at least one of the local orchestras, and is in two or three), and for him that is how his bass is comfortable. As long as we are not talking about something really collectable (like a early 60's P-bass), then you could try finding strap locations which are comfortable for you. My friend has three or four sets of holes on his bass from trying to find the "right" ones.

Tried to do that on the button on the neck, saxophone-style...way too much weight hanging off the neck, and a fairly unnatural position.....am still using a chair instead.

....if you're ever looking to knock off another one of those, I'd be first in line!! Barring that, would you mind if I tried to copy it? That's just perfect - great idea and execution!

Do you have any shots from side, or back? I can visualize it, but it would cool to see that too if you have it...
It looks like the post is drilled, and the bolt and wingnut hold the top in place....but I'm unclear on exactly how where the back leg connects....another bolt and wingnut?

Another side view showing the rail with 3 holes for the leg. It bolts to one of the 3 holes. The top hole lets it lean back the farthest and is the most stable. Three holes is probably overkill.

The leg is just there to hold it up for the picture view.
