I have a mixer? I think there is... But i just wanna make sure I can connect my mixer to the audio interface... I am in audio engineering school and all we use is Pro Tools and reason, so i want to throw out Cakewalk and start using Pro Tools at home. I record with just myself so i dont really need a lot of inputs and outputs... Which would be a good one to buy? Will all the audio interfaces fit with my mixer? I have a peavey 20 channel mixer (which i connect via USB),

When i buy pro tools i am basically buying it for the interface correct? Becuase with it it wont work? If you all can give me some advice on which interface to get so i can hook up my mixer, i would appreciate it!

Thanks!

pro tools is only compatible with digidesign stuff try cubase or something

Digi 003. You could hook up your mixer to that and use your mixer then.

I believe.

The Mbox2 Pro has an Aux in input that I use to connect my mixer. The Mbox 2 may also have this. The M box mini does not. Pretty sure You won't be able to connect via USB though. That's probably your best bet if you're just recording yourself. The 003 is a bit more pricey than than the Mbox interfaces. I guess it all depends on your budget and what your trying to accomplish. And yeah, You have to have a Digidesign interface to use protools le or an M audio interface that supports pro tools m powered.

there's not really any point in using a mixer with that many channels unless you can actually use those channels. in that case you need lots of I/O on the interface. with the DIGI 003r you can get up to 20 channels of I/O if you want.

or you could just ditch the mixer and go in the box. is the peavey mixer really that critical you your setup? i can't imagine that the pres are that great in it.

The thing about the mixer is that, I rather use it to mix down my songs... I know pro tools has a digital mixer, but i rather mix the song using the channels on my mixer... I dont know i might consider just selling the mixer and just using the audio interface... I also use my mixer for live sound...

you'll have to have as many outputs on the Digi interface as you have tracks.
and then have as many channel inputs on the mixer as you have tracks.

Then you'll need to have something to go back to when you want to bounce the final mix.

Why do you want to mix the tracks on the Peavey?

I'm trying to figure out why buying an MBox2Pro with some sort of small USB control surface isn't an option. Most people don't really need much more than that.

I see the problem, I'm fried I just got out of my Multitrack Recording Techniques class. Man if you want to go Pro Tools, you're going to have to sell everything and restart. Unless you got cash on the back burner with which you can use.

so then why not buy an Mbox 2 Pro and a control surface?
